So I saw episode 3, and while i was at it i was watching palpatine and know what he made me think of? Andropinis. Andropinis is nominally an elected official, and, well, palpatine just really reminded me of him, both in appearance and in the more-than-what-he-appears-ness.

"My...little...green...friend"

The flick was good, but the acting was horrible.

Eh, the acting was more horrible in EP 1 and 2, especially the Portman/Christensen scenes in EP 2, but I blame Lucas on that since both Portman and Christensen can actually act. See some of the other things, espcially the newer stuff, Christensen did if you don't believe me.

I did see preserver magic as the good side of the Force and Defiler magic as the Dark side.

I must admit to getting several ideas for my ds campaign from watching that movie, too. Plus, I think Lucas must've bred an erdlu/inix crossbreed for that movie

I think Chewbacca was the best actor in the movie.

Sweet, sweet Chewbacca.

And on Dark Sun, was it ever established whether andropinis actually was voted in and turned bad? (ala palpatine) or that he took over and then established a democratic facade. I remember one of the books described Balic as having a history of democracy, but considering how long andropinis probably ruled, and the general athasian unawareness of history, that could just be a reference to andropinis using democracy as a facade, and a good way to push the blame onto others like the senators (which is similar to how in the Battletech books rebellious elements in the Draconis combine worked to protect the coordinator (ruler of the nation) from the supposed 'evil advisors' who were warping the Draconis society against their beliefs)

IIRC Andropinis was elected for his position on a lifetime basis. No one expected him to live as long though :P

Hi everybody!

First let me congradulate everybody on a really interesting topic, I hadn't drawn the parallel between Palpatine/Sidious and Androponis but it *DOES* fit very well.

Secondly, I do have to put my "official" hat on and remind everybody that we don't allow Political, Real-World Religious, or Controvercial-Topic discussion anywhere on the WotC forums.

These forums are here to bring gamers together and have fun, so we don't allow topics that drive people apart (I mean, WotC didn't become the industry leader by alienating it's customer base).

Actually, I always thought Kalak was the Emperor's incarnation on Athas (appearance wise, that is).

This topic has got me thinking about the other SK's and how they took over their city states.

Andropinis was elected at least 700 yrs ago in Balic.

Hamanu built Urik up using the remnants of his army and the inhabitants of the original village. (havent read rise and fall in years so not sure exactly).

Kalak ruled Tyr before the Cleansing wars - we'll avoid his championness here.

Not sure about the other ones. Nibenay was the only one to name the city after himself unless he took on the name of the city, to disguise his origins and also identify himself with the city (in a similar way to hamanu, though evil, acts always to the benefit of the city, something his population are aware of) and both cities are very lawful.

Did anyone ever consider the possibility of Pennarin being designated to wipe out the Wookies? :P

In the Wanderer journal, its said that Tectutitlay led his people in the mud field of actual Draj and founded a city there.

Nibenay must certainly have took control of the city since there building pre-dating his reign.

I dont know for Lalali-puy, but in my game, she founded her city like Tectutitlay.

Abalach-re took control of Raam.

Nah Pennarin was not sent after the wookies..... it was the gungans...... it even fits the fluff of the descriptions of the gangly, pale, big eyed enemies :P

plus Rajaat would definately seen them as an abomination of the rebirth

I have to concur. The last time I went to the range, I stapled a poster of Jar-Jar to the target. Had better aim then most times. Nothing but kidneys and brains!! :D

And you put a space at the end of the URL before the close tag. so therefore, it's trying to look up the wrong address.

Not to draw the wrath of the gods on these boards, but I have noticed that the best stories and the best campaigns have some resonance with real life. And considering that Lucas even straight up said that Ep. III was analogous to our current real-world situations...

was going to comment, but one smackdown a week is enough
If andropinis is palpatine, who would be darth vader? hamanu - the good boy gone wrong? or oronis, the bad guy who redeems himself?

Yeah, those of us from the "blue states" are a little sensitive about censorship lately. Weird.

Anyways, your point would suggest that Andy created Vader; not sure I could go with that one. I think Rajaat might be a good figure though, but whereas Palpatine wanted only more and more power, Rajaat actually wanted to make the world a better place. His tactics for acheiving that goal, however, were a bit monstrous.

dracochapel

Jun 06, 2005 0:52:01
yeah it doesnt really match up. but someone should be darth vader hamanu could be darth vader, the troll scorcher guy can be darth tyrannus (killed by vader) and the previous dwarf slayer can be darth maul.
Evil mastermind suits rajaat more than andropinis anyway. and palpatine is ugly enough.
Padme could be that druid chick that hamanu loves/loved.
Sadira can be Mara Jade (the emperors hand with a secret objective - kill luke / release rajaat from the hollow cause shes stupid)

Still don't see it. Maybe if Rajaat were Darth Vader and some ancient life-bender (who gave him the secret of the Brown Tide aka Defiling) was the power behind the power? Fits a little better that way: Rajaat wants only good, but in his quest for it, he commits far-reaching atrocities.

Previous? it's probably just Borys with another name. Or that was his name before he changed it to Borys anyways. That's my thoughts on the matter at the moment.
