I've been trying to access birthright.net for two days with no luck. Am I the only one having trouble or is there some sort of problem?

I noticed that since the middle of last week.

I had sent the e-mail to Arjan about the April fool's joke but never got a reply.

I'll try another e-mail, I wonder if something is up with him in real life that is messing with him. I hadn't seen him post on BR.net since around the time he posted the gag either.

Sindre anything on the server side that could be causing these problems (like the last time it was switched)?

It's back up now. Arjan said it was another server switch that caught him by surprise.

Still isn't working for me.

I can't get to it from work, but can at home (at least last night I could).

Let's see if I can remember Arjan's explanation from the last time the server changed. . .The IP address has changed due to the server change so your PC needs to reassociate itself with it - this happens automatically but at variable periodicity.

My home PC appears to check more frequently for updates than does my work one. Could be the same thing, could be something different or could just be that the site went down between last night and today and I haven't discovered that yet.

Fresh from Arjan {well at least recently},

Hi Duane, theres more going on with the site.
It seems some of the forum queries are sucking up the server processor big time. Some will eat the processor for more then 10 min, and therefor the server becomes unstable and slow.'

I have no idea what can cause this, nor any solution for it. I have not made any adjustments to the software lately.
...i doubt that it had to do with the expired liscense.

I am currently looking fo a stable free all-in-one solution (article system and forums in one : considdering postnuke)

the error message we are getting now is a .htaccess files placed by the server owner in the root of BRnet. i can remove it then the forums does work again. but he asked me to find a solution first.

i will enable the site again tonight and put up and temp out of order page so people do know whats going on and that i am working on it.

Heya guys,

I am afraid this is going to take a while, i need to build a complete new site, because there were some scripts that sucked up all the resources of the server.

before i can launch anything, everything must be tested again.

i can do two things though.

1) I could first try to fix the forum (converting it from IPB to PHPBB) and place it online again.
I tried converting the members and posts and messages, that went all well, only polls and subscriptions arent converted.

2) Wait with the forum and integrate it into a new CMS portal (postnuke)
I have tested with this, and didnt managed to get the forum to work yet.
So option 2 is prolly the longest way.

i would like to hear your opinion.

And if you have any PHP/MySql knowledge... all help is welcome

cheers
Arjan

Not at the moment, but when I DM a game Birthright is my setting of choice. Of course, I am also still using the 2e AD&D rules too.

Yes, I am. Or rather, I'm dm.
Even after four-years pause, five old Birthright fans plays this setting. Mix of Birthright playtest rules, 3.5 and AD&D rules.
Currently, low-level pure elven party from Tuarhievel lend help to mid-level NPC cleric of Avani for founding new temple - in Wierech.
It sounds crazy, but my players make all decisions by themselves, and I enjoy this play.

I'm running a group in the giantdowns currently. I would love to talk about some possible adventure ideas with some fans of the setting.

PM me!

Suggestion:

Go post this on Birthright.net. You are more likely to get a substantial amount of feedback there, since it has much more "traffic" than this thread does.
