I was wondering if any of you guys ever looked at or played the Dragon Mountain boxed set. The one I have is a 2nd AD&D version. I want to convert it to be playable in my campaign. I guess the main question would be, where would the adventure take place in Mystara? If you guys have any questions in case you've never heard of it, I'll try to answer them and hopefully somebody can either suggest a good spot or I'll figure one out during the discussion.

The best spot in the Known World IMHO to place Dragon Mountain would be western Soderfjord or somewhere else in the Northern Reaches, especially if you plan on using the introductory material from Book I. I've always seen the encounters in that book as being set in a more wild and unsettled region of the world, where there aren't kings and armies able to provide backup, so places like Glantri or Thyatis would be right out.

Of course, if you just use the mountain itself, it could planeshift into place near just about anywhere in the Known World. Heck, in some places, Infyrana's magical knowledge might make her a valued guest! Watch the players emerge from the mountain sweaty, bleeding and tired, only to have to explain to some Ritterburg noble why they were so inconsiderate as to destroy his 'good friend'...

Ooh I like that idea. Funny about the Ritterburg noble, but I think the wilderness aspect of the north is perfect. It could tie into the character I have form Soderfjord. I'll give him a piece of that map that his father had given to him. Then tell him the legend. Then just leave it at that until they are ready to really search for it. They'll discover another piece in the ruins in the first adventure in the WotI. Then they will think it might be a real legend. I want to guide them into the Dragon Mountain adventure before completing the WotI. Sort of intermingle the 2 together along with a few others. Like some adventures traveling to Blackmoor and the Temple of the Frog. This will be a long campaign and so far these players are all going to be around for a while. So this could be good. I used to make up most of the adventures, but this time I'm going more for the epic feel. They're a bunch of Tolkien fans so I have to keep things on a Saving the World basis.

Thanks for the reply, it was what I needed to jumpstart my brain.

Have you considered doing the Blood Brethren trilogy too? It's pretty high up there as far as saving the world goes. And since it involves the Hollow World, it's not entirely incompatible with Wrath of the Immortals Phase II.

That's one I don't have. It sounds like a good fit, so I'll look into getting my hands on it. Money's been tight lately so it'll have to wait, but there is time since it will be a while before WotI Phase 2 begins. Thanks for the suggestion.

Did anyone find the first part of Dragon Mountain incredibly lame? The players go on a chase after some guy, hit some very powerful monsters which live in populated areas, and find it was all a wild goose chase. But hey, you just happen to be in range of Dragon Mountain now!

Yeah, I remember that. I bought the boxed set years ago and read through the first 20-30 pages and then put it away, exactly because the opening was so unbelivably stupid.

This thread made me open up the boxed set again though, and it really is quite a great mountain dungeon crawl. But it needs a bit of tweaking because the original intro to the adventure just sucks. ;)

Precisely why I'm rearranging the beginning to just be mixed in with the rest of my campaign. Until they figure out where Dragon Mountain is, then I'll run the last 2 books as is. I was never fond of the beginning either. My players aren't going to be searching for the mountain anyway, they'll just keep stumbling into parts of the first book till they're ready. Especially since they are still level 1. ;)
