Last weekend we held here in São Paulo (Brazil) our annual rpg convention, this was the first time i've attended and I DMed Dark Sun 3.5 friday and saturday and played Dark Sun on Sunday.

Besides receiving many kudos for the material and for keeping Dark Sun alive one thing struck me:

A lot of people who were great DS fans once doesn't know DS' out there!

What can we do to change this?

I have LOTS of bad ideas...
Illegal, amoral, impractical ideas...
the kind of ideas that the CoC prevents me from posting in fear that those who uphold and enforce the CoC ban me from these forums...

So I'll mufle my creativity and share some impractical ones:

Dark Sun kites
Rikus outfits (with DS logo on them)
Gladiatorial slave facial tatoos

A few chicks dressed up in 'slave outfits' would do the job.

A lot of people who were great DS fans once doesn't know DS' out there!

This is tragic and downright annoying to me sometimes.

Maybe it's just an American thing and I'm use to it, but do these people not have internet connections, or at least a library that has one? I mean Brazil isn't exactly a third world country (in some areas they have it better than America), so what's the reason?

I'm not trying to be angry or anything, just really curious only because it baffles me.

I think that some T-shirts breezing around some Con would do the trick- you would even have the chicks wearing them too if you wanted.

But seriously, would Athas.org be cool with people make DS shirts with the offical logo on them (aaahhh Jon. They are talking to you) :D

I went with Nyt at GenCon and I can tell you that besides buying a full-page ad in the convention guide, or having some air-time in front of the thousands of in-door players in the larger rooms, no one at GenCon is gonna notice you, even if you yell "athas.org" at the top of your lungs all day.

(aaahhh Jon. They are talking to you)

I'd have to check with Gab about the legal bit, but from the top of my head you would definitely not be allowed to use the 2E DS logos, which means you would lose a lot of the recognition factor. I'll have to consider the pros and cons of t-shirts, but it's an interesting idea!

We use our own logo in DS Brasil, we use it on our t-shirts...sometimes just playing with t-shirts with DARK SUN written on it and a cool drawing is necessary to get everyone's attention...

Of course playing with the original box standing on top of the table helps too...

You can't use the words Dark Sun, they're a trademark owned by Wizards. The DS3 logo might be acceptable, but we'll have to check with Wizards.

Dern. . I would really like to have a Dark Sun Tshirt of my own, specially to wear when I DM the game every other weekend.

Jon, let us know if every TSHirts become a possibility, and whoever is thinking about making some. Heck, I might even go to someplace in vegas here and have one made, if it can be done without legal ramifications.

They are in Brazil, whats wizards gonna do? Thats like telling the chinese that they can't pirate software. I of course would never dream of breaking WoC's sacred rules.

Are you sure we can't use the "Dark Sun" words? Even if it is for a non-commercial t-shirt made only to divulge the campaign setting?

Definitely, we should start thinking about translating the campaign setting name to portuguese too, Brun0. How about "Sol Escuro" or "Sol Negro", wich one do you prefer?

BTW, we chosen not to ignore wizards copyrights in order the be the only brazilian website dealing with official material.

Acctualy we are trying hard to be authorized to translate 2nd editon material and convert it to 3.5 edition. 2nd edition stuff is really a problem for us since it was never translated to portuguese and never came to Brazil. We keep hearing "I'm sorry to disappoint you, but we cannot grant the permissions that you request. We made a conscious choice not to continue supporting Dark Sun.", nonetheless, we won't give up, they might someday change their minds and allows us to give to portuguese speakers access to 2nd edition stuff...
