Is there a more permanent location for all these ideas, spells, items, PRC’s and all the other stuff that is being put up on the board? I mean a place where the final versions of all this wonderful stuff and that may not be in the cannon of DS3 can be found? It would be nice and if there isn’t one I think I would like to start one if it isn’t in violation of the license agreements of course.

So of us, myself included, have started putting links to the material that we make on our signatures so people can find it easier. I also made one thread where I post all new items and spells that I create, again to make it easier for poeple looking for it.

As for putting it on another website, well I think that you should ask the individual creators of the material if it would be okey.

I was thinking the same thing the other day... I'm already working on a website for my campaign with user logins, character info w/character sheets, "Contact the DM" forms, etc. It shouldn't be a stretch to apply that to a D&D user submission system...

I have no problem with having my material placed on anyones website as long as credit is given where due. In fact I don't even mind if other people take anything I've worked on an canniblize it for ideas or make alternate versions either, as long as they give me a nod. :D

I'm starting to get serious about learning Spring, Struts and Hibernate. Java technologies for web programming. A database site for this stuff is probably a good project for it all. I'll hack around a bit this weekend, see what comes up. ;)

... having reached the decision that I hate PHP. Actually, I just hate the style of programming that PHP practically forces on you.

I actually like PHP, but then I'm used to Javascript and C/C++ so it kinda comes naturally to me. I think C was the second language I learned.

Oh, sure, PHP is easy to pick up and learn, and getting things out initially is a breeze. But, it's built to ram things out quickly, and doesn't do much for structure ... eventually, what you end up with is Big Ball of Mud.

I'm a professional software developer who takes maybe a little too much pride in his work. Unmaintainable turns my gut.

But this has strayed wildly off-topic...

I had no idea, that that was the case. Let me ask you a question though... and please don't get angry. I know you are from Quebec and bi-lingual, but did you learn English as an infant or later on in school? I have no problem with giving you my material, but I would prefer to also have it posted on a site made by someone for whom english is a first language. That is I'll give you my material to post on your site as I finish it, but I think we could use another site made by someone who is a native speaker of english (that is If you aren't).

Er...Sage, I'm bilingual too and don't see the problem with bilingual sites. Grummore's site is OK in that regard. He's got a lot of people stoping by his site to find links, a good way to plug your creations if the people take the time to browse.

I have nothing against bi-lingual people, in fact I think it would be better if more people could speak multiple languages. I myself can only speak English, a little conversational Japanese, and a smattering of pharses and words in various European languages.

I just find it difficult to read bad english. You're right that Gunmore isn't too bad, he has a very seviceable grasp of the language. He can surely be understood with ease by any fluent english speaker. Yet as a non-native speaker he still has an incomplete grasp of the language.

This is from his title page:

I am Sébastien Gamache, the Silt Skimmer captain of the "Wind Rider". This ship is divide in sections shown at your left. It's therefor my highest pleasure to lead you to the ship section you wish to explore.

But here you are, you found one.

It should read:

Nice to know there are other programmers out here. I am trying to finish my degree in CIS I just with I could find a job as a jr somewhere. I know C/C++/VC++ I taught myself VB, ASP, and SQL and the vastly inferior access database still learning the databases though so any help would be appreciated

I was simply thinking of a site where you have to log in to upload an idea just so we can keep the submission strait and you enter a name and description then upload the word doc or pdf. Anyone would be able to download from this site

I had no idea, that that was the case. Let me ask you a question though... and please don't get angry. (...) but I think we could use another site made by someone who is a native speaker of english (that is If you aren't).

It took me 2 days to have the time to write this message. It's probably a good things, because I had the time to get cooler.

I usually dont take this kind of thing personnaly, although there are several things that have bug me in the last couple of days.

YES, I am from Québec.
YES, I am french speaker.
YES, I have learn english through school in the first place.
YES, I got my english better through reading, writing and such.
NO, I am not native english speaker.
NO, I am not better than most english native.
NO, I wont probably become better than any english native.

I will first say that I am fairly dissapointed your attitude Rhul-T Sage. In first place, I dont like the tone you take to answer peoples. There are more polite way to answer. These werent pointed at me (albeit this one) and I felt bad for them the way you wrote your reply. It usually sound as *****ing.

In second place, why are you so important that your material should only go on native english webmaster? Of course, it's your decision to take. French site are rare, if not absent. I am the only one that stay open in order to give them some help since it's not all french speaking "native" that know how to read/write english.

I know I am not as good in english as you are and I will probably never be (probably because I am not interested in such a perfection). But I am the only site since 1996 that is STILL open and updating : french or english. Other site have otherwise dissapear, they dont update or changed vocation.

I am probably not as good as many here when I come to have the Darksun knowledge or been rulewise, BUT I am been here around for more time than most peoples here and it doesnt make me a useless person. At least I dont think so.

I have tryed for all these years to have a site that would allow the DS fans to know where to go and where to find information. I tryed to keep my site up and running so peoples know what's up about the DS community and I have tryed to end up with a site that would host the community material so their work dont go to oblivion.

I feel sad and dissapointed by your saying, attitude and your full of self-importance.

Oh, there are probably some spelling errors. I am french my apology.

P.S. I made the change to my front page and corrected these errors. I just didnt took the time to change these since 1998 I think...

Don't worry Grummore, I love your site and think it's a great idea, and I'm sure I'm not alone. I wouldn't take Sage's comments personally only because I don't think he meant them as an attack, if I am wrong then please correct me Sage.

Anyways, back on topic, has anyone here tried multiply yet?

Sysane and myself are using, and we probably aren't the only ones on this board doing so, just the only two I know of.

http://multiply.com

Let me know if you want to sign up and I can send an invite, or sign up and let us know you did so we can add you to our contact list, etc.

It's not as good as having your own website, but I think it will help out with what is being discussed in this thread. Heck, we can even create our own little group to hang out in as well, gives us somewhere to post about off-topic stuff in case we want to sometimes, etc.

Check it out and give it a try.

What else is there? i'm making the site and trying to get it up fast so only working on functionality right now i will be working on the pretty after i get it up and going. wouldn't mind some good quality art work and yes you will get credit for it.

Ok, I try to state my opinion without offense. Unfortunately sometimes that is impossible. Sometimes the only way to not offend people is to not say anything or to lie. I hate doing either of those things, but I will endevour to be more sensitive to others.

In second place, why are you so important that your material should only go on native english webmaster? Of course, it's your decision to take. French site are rare, if not absent. I am the only one that stay open in order to give them some help since it's not all french speaking "native" that know how to read/write english.

I'm not, I didn't say it should only go to a native English webmaster. I said that there should also be a site run by a native english speaker to hold these things. In fact, I said that I would be happy to give you my material to post and I still feel that way. My comments were partialy directed at Wolfheart who I thought could still be useful in hosting an english site for these materials even if your site is already a bi-lingual one. I think it is great that you provide a reasource for french speakers to be able to enjoy Darksun and I support that. I would also support anyone else who had a site for other foriegn language fans.

I know I am not as good in english as you are and I will probably never be (probably because I am not interested in such a perfection). But I am the only site since 1996 that is STILL open and updating : french or english. Other site have otherwise dissapear, they dont update or changed vocation.

Wow! that's dedication :D

I am probably not as good as many here when I come to have the Darksun knowledge or been rulewise, BUT I am been here around for more time than most peoples here and it doesnt make me a useless person. At least I dont think so.

I don't think you are useless. Your comments are intelligent and your site is a usefull reasource. I think that you have plenty to offer the DS community.

I have tryed for all these years to have a site that would allow the DS fans to know where to go and where to find information. I tryed to keep my site up and running so peoples know what's up about the DS community and I have tryed to end up with a site that would host the community material so their work dont go to oblivion.

I should not have undercut your efforts with my comments. My concerns about the site are minor in comparison to what you have to offer. It is not necessary for there to be another site, it never was. I just thought that there was a place for one and didn't want Wolfhearts offer to be nullified by the exsistance of your site.

I feel sad and dissapointed by your saying, attitude and your full of self-importance.

I am sorry for upsetting you, but I don't understand what you mean by calling me self-important. This matter has nothing to do with my importance.

I hope you will not hold a grudge. I assure you that I do not hold you any ill will.

While it's not a database app, I went in a different direction and put up a Wiki on athas.org http://athas.org/wiki/

This actually has some advantages over a database application, and some potential disadvantages.

Advantage: it's unstructured. You're not forced into meeting a particular format or limited to only what the developer has thought of. The community grows it in the direction that the community wants it to grow.

Disadvantage: it's unstructured. You get no help on inputting things, and sometimes, you have to make it up as you go along. other times, you can copy from a template and use that ...

For an example of storing a PrC, check out http://athas.org/wiki/index.php/Janissary ... I transcribed this over the corse of about 10 minutes, tops.
