What could cause Five Shires Civil War
by Not a DecepticonEveryone make so many great and inspiring ideas in this thread. I was going to respond with quotes to everyone, but I actually begin to see some sort of connected thread forming in between the various ideas presented. So let me try to weave together as many as I can.
- Separate events in Darokin and Platea in Davania lead to sudden influx of Hin refugees into the Five Shires, Highshire and Southshire respectively. These refugees carry with them worship of Immortals adopted from cultures they lived in, which creates sudden religious tension with worshippers of Hin's Immortal Heroes. Southshire is swept in by the new religion, creating serious religious and national tension with other Shires.
- Moreover, some of refugees have been uder the ffects of virus charm from Glantrians, whose effects begun spreading into Highshire, further increasing agression towards fellow Hin, making religious tensions even heavier.
- Hin pirates, in a wrapped sense of duty to their nation in time of economic strain, become far more agressive and bold in their raids. Eventually they piss off Ierendi enough for Guardians of the Sea to turn a blind eye whenever Minrothad pirates and Thyatian navy wold be pushing back on the Hin's ambitions. In the end hin Pirates are forced to sit in Seashire until situation cools off, meaning there is suddenly a lot of frustrated, bored, experienced killers with nothing to do and a chip on their should.
- Van Hendrix gets reincarnated as a Hin and uses his hidden founds and Bargle's help to become well-connected with Sheriff and Clan Masters of Eastshire, discovering secrets of blackflame and crafting himself new weapons. His work has corrupting effect on Blackflame, opening potential door to either the Dark Hin, Dark Urdlings or even both. He begins influencing Sheriff of Eastshire (or becomes one himself) and trying to get as much blackflame as possible, by any means necessary, to the point other shires begin to have their resources be running out (if this campaign would be run before Wrath of the immortals or Van Hendrix's death, Bargle himself could polymorph himself into a Hin and take role of Van Hendrix).
- The above creates quite of a poweder keg of tensions all around. And now for the match: new resources of Blackflame are discovered in Hearthshire, right when the Sheriff (or an influential Hin or Hin Master who could have made claim to these resources) passes away, igniting all the Shires to try to claim this precious resource for themselves.
- The PCs are Hin who have some sort of claim to the land new resources of Blackflame are discovered in, thus giving them major role in trying to stop the upcoming conflict, or play it to their advantage.
I think that's a good setup for a campaign. What do you think?
