#1AmarilJul 11, 2005 15:00:33 | So I decided to incorporate Weapons of Legacy into my GH camapign. I have an item (in some cases severl items) for each PC, but I can't seem to think of anything for the Cleric of Ralishaz. I know that I want to make it a quarterstaff, which is Ralishaz's favored weapon and the cleric's favorite weapon. I'm just not sure what type of abilities I should grant it as it progresses. I'd like to keep the item true to the theme of Ralishaz and to include aspects of chaos, destruction, luck, and insanity. If anyone wants to help me flesh out this idea, feel free to contribute in this thread. Also, I'm open to any suggestions for the legacy item's history. |

Perhaps it has a special attack/power that's activated on a critical? Create a small table of possible effects and make one of them injurous to the wielder instead of the opponent. |

I was thinking of something along the lines of a making a quarterstaff that also acts as a rod of wonder. The problem I have is that I'd rather create something that is a bit more controlled. Maybe something that focuses more on luck rather than chaos. By the way, the PC might be taking levels in the Fatespinner PrC, which we've adapted for divine spellcasters. |

However, this item is a strangely carved copper peice. So like a BAD PENNY it keeps on coming back! heh I think thats perfect, keeps with the theme, and makes the players laugh. At the same time the ammo for the sling never ends! :P |

I like this idea, but I might instead make it similar to the Cursed Backbiter Spear This is a +2 shortspear, but each time it is used in melee against a foe and the attack roll is a natural 1, it damages its wielder instead of her intended target. When the curse takes effect, the spear curls around to strike its wielder in the back, automatically dealing the damage to the wielder. The curse even functions when the spear is hurled, and in such a case the damage to the hurler is doubled. Clerics of Ralishaz rarely exprience bad luck, but when they do, it's really bad. So at some point, I could make it a anarchic cursed backbiter quarterstaff. So what do you guys think about spell/day or at will abilities? something like from the luck and destruction domains. Entropic shield and shatter are two examples I'm thinking of. |
#7AmarilJul 13, 2005 23:02:37 | So I spoke to the player about what sort of legacy item he'd be interested in and he asked if he could do something with the new magic ring he recently won while gambling with a "beautiful maiden." "What's the ring?" you ask. It's none other than the Lucky Ring of the Wild Coast won from an avatar of Ralishaz who challenged the cleric in game of knucklebones in a busy bar during Brewfest. The cleric wanted to create his own sect for the church of Ralishaz and intends to become Ralishaz's most powerful cleric. To aid the cleric in his endeavor, Ralishaz staged the game so that the cleric was losing badly, and then offered a wager for the cleric's remaining possessions for the ring (unidentified as magic at the time). The cleric took the gamble and all of the onlookers held there breath as the last bones were rolled. The cleric won not only the game, but a mass of believers. Coincidentally, all of this was actually done well before I even knew about Weapons of Legacy. Now to stat up the legacy item! PS - Just for flavor, did I mention the cleric is a refugee from Fax who lived with an abusive father that ran a seedy gambling den and effectively enslaved the boy? He always overheard the patrons' prayers to Ralishaz and one night prayed to the deity of ill-luck. The next day, raiders from the Pomarj invaded and destroyed Fax, killed his father, and captured the young boy. He later escaped from captivity and fled for The Free City of Greyhawk where he sought the Temple of Ralishaz. He chose the domains of destruction and luck in recognition of his luck spawned by destruction. |
