I pretty much quit playing 2e AD&D around the time that Planescape was released, but I fondly remembered the modrons from the 1e MMII. Now I'm playing in 3.5e D&D, and I was thinking of running an adventure centered around these creatures. I have the Manual of the Planes and its web supplement detailing the modrons, but I was wondering if any interesting fluff or crunch was left out of the supplement (I'm guessing yes). My scenario involves the modrons tracking down a rogue on the Material Plane (how original, I know).

The web enhancement collected a staggering amount of material from a variety of sources. I really don't think it left anything out.

This fan-created site is pretty cool, though, and you might want to check out the Mimir's Mechanus department.

That's cool that the web enhancement contains a lot of the earlier information. For my purposes, I was actually wondering about a couple of details:

1. Was there a description of the Modron language?
2. Primus is described as an intermediate deity in the web supplement (I believe it was intermediate); was his holy symbol and favored weapon ever documented?
3. Do the Modron hierarchy employ non-Modron agents? I was thinking of something like the mechanatrix from the 3e Fiend Folio.
4. Is there a description of Modron created magic devices?

Thanks

I do not believe that there were holy symbols/weapons for Primus as aprt from the seconduses no modron knows about him .
As for modron created stuff. do u mean modron stuff or rogue modron created stuff. a 12ft belt is porbly a modron creation to fit around his cubic bulk or gear spirits (i think thats right ). Im trying to think PS:T here.
A modron language, hmm i think id use a 2 word language that was for 1s an 0s and have them spit it out in a constant stream so it like *bigh pitch beep* then *low pitch beep* but it was a fast language that u could barely tell the difference between the two.
Oh and by the way...check out my home made modron mini.

Nope.

He was a greater deity in 2nd edition and is described as a lesser deity in the web supplement. However, he sponsors no clerics, so he has no holy symbol, nor a favored weapon. The only spells he grants are to those modrons with divine spellcasting powers.

If he had a holy symbol, it would probably be a gear.

3. Do the Modron hierarchy employ non-Modron agents? I was thinking of something like the mechanatrix from the 3e Fiend Folio.

The mechanatrix likely does have modron blood. Modrons might work with mortals in certain situations.

4. Is there a description of Modron created magic devices?

Yeah, in various obscure places - Nordrom, the rogue modron in Planescape: Torment, had magical lenses and crossbows. There were some modron magic items detailed in various old issues of Dragon Magazine.

cool mini!

I made a modron that made clinky noises when you shook him way back in high school ceramics class... darn legs were so hard to keep from falling off in the kiln though.

personally, i enjoyed the 2nd edition modrons where they basically had control of all of mechanus. honestly, formians? giant ants? it's time to introduce a gigantic sized axiomatic feral ant-eater to mechanus.

I hated formians for a long time, too. Then I realised that they have an interesting story, and there's no reason they need to be taking Mechanus from the modrons.
