Khuzd03-17-08, 03:06 PM | I'm currently playing a campaign in Glantri-Ethengar-Broken Lands. Young Glantrian magic students (3rd level) go adventuring with a 5th level Sprite, an old friend of their (long dissapeared) uncle. This sprite is a player character (my brother plays it). You know: the sprite is always flying and invisible: the perfect spy. This made me think about anti-invisibility and anti-fly techniques for not very magical cultures. Such as the brokenlander humanoids. Two ideas: - Tamed giant bats. They fly and "see invisible", they can even disturb flying wizards, attacking them. There are orc trainers who prepare this bats, and they have lots of them in "strategic" points, such as gates to Lower BrokenLands. Some of the trainers are "empathic" with the bats. (Some may even be humanoid "were-bats", highly respected and committed to their tribes). - Shrieking mushroms in walls and ceilings, in underground corridors, everywhere. They detect flying invisible spies and "shout". There could be some species that throw small spores, such as a dust rain, against the invisible spies. Of course, wolves and dogs can also smell an invisible enemy, but are not very useful if the enemy is flying 20 feet over your head. Any more ideas? Please: cheap, biological, non magical... available to orcs, giants, non magical cultures. |

Take into account the Goblins' special affinity for animals, which may be useful as well. The blindfighting skill could also help, as would Lupin guards (Cimarron Hairless mix well with unsavory humanoids, since they've already been followers of Atzanteotl as well as servants of Prince Morphail). Also, nets and low passages can also be used, as well as trained spiders (with webs) and low-magic area attacks (pepper bombs or even poisonous smokes channeled through specially ventilated tunnels). Smoke can also be used to detect invisible enemies (by looking at disturbances in the smoke). GP |
Twin Campaigns03-18-08, 03:00 AM | In our campaign many armies use chaff to deteck invisible atackers. If an alarm is made of invisible assassins or saboteurs, bags of light ash etc are shot in the air. |
Barons_man03-18-08, 05:13 PM | Use a wicca and magic-mouth. Mini water-falls - well something's just come through. Similar idea is a dusty room and watch for disturbances. A couple of good doors < -room- > and arrow slits. Door opens fire arrows if you see nothing. a good smokey fire. oh look a person type hole in the smoke. a 2 to 3 foot muddy crawl space, oh look at all that mud dropping on the floor. |
