It pretty much offers terrain modifiers, race alterations, a few new ones, some great monsters and items, and a few decent PrCs...I've thought about grabbing it as an additional source. Any one else tried to do so? |

Any one else tried to do so? Yes, I use it pretty much every session of DS that I run now, mainly for the terrain and weather rules. There are also a couple of types of sand that reproduce the effects of DS silt very well. The spells are also very useful. Plus any book that has a huge cactus treant as a monster gets my vote :D... |

I mean there's helpful stuff and all, but it just seems a little less inspired and not so much good stuff. I was excited at the idea of desert-adapted races, but none of them really screamed athas to me. The heat resistance racial mods were interesting, but that's about it. I say have a look yourself: depending on what you're looking for it'll be either hit or miss. |

Any one else tried to do so? I've been slowly trying to figure out how to adapt elements from it into my campagins. I have to agree with Kam that it's a good resource worthy of being used for a DS game, but also with Cap'n Nick that it seems somewhat uninspired. |

True - I use it primarily for the rules and crunch content, rather than as a source of kewl desert adventure ideas (although I did like Sandstorm's take on Black Sand regions and adapted the DS version to match that). Plus it was cool to see the old Desert of Desolation series make a cameo here and there. As hardcore DS players, mind you, I'd say that our standards are set higher than the norm when it comes to what we expect from a desert-based supplement and, under those criteria, the book could have had a bit more punch. Non-DS players would probably find it more inspirational than us sand-blasted old hacks ;)... |

The only reason I bought the book in the first place was because I needed some better guidence on weather related material, and a few of the spells. I do like the weapons in it and was thinking about making some of them regional weapons and giving people that live there a free weapon proficiency in it, but that would just to give each area a little more distinction. |

What is it with you and cacti? As for me, I like Sandstorm a bit better than Frostburn (ie. it was tolerable for normal worlds, Frostburn was basically garbage IMO). That said, I do use the weather and terrain rules to an extent in DS and the spells and some critters are good. The ashworm dragoon, lord of tides, scorpion heritor, and walker in the waste prestiges can fit DS with varying amounts of modification. I was even considering porting in the bhuka (a desert goblin varient) as a cousin race to goblins that Daskinor didn't quite finish off, but I still not sure on that one. |
