Interesting announcement (http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG) from Paizo about developing a Pathfinder RPG based on revisions of the 3.5 ruleset. As someone who dislikes what he sees with 4E, I'm going to give this a serious look. Just downloaded their open Alpha playtest rules.

Not necessarily Mystara topical, although the Paizo guys are the ones who've done the most to keep the Mystara name/brand alive in recent years. Just an FYI to everyone.

I think it clearly shows which side of the fence they are on, and for the moment, what they see as profitable.

I think this is more a reaction to Wizards of the Coast's severe mishandling of the GSL than anything else. I hope that this is just attributed to weapons-grade incompetence on WotC's part and not maliciousness, but you can't really tell.

Paizo has a 6th month publishing schedule and they're getting ready to release the 2nd installment of their current adventure path (6 adventures long). That means that they NEEDED to make a decision about the rules that their 3rd adventure path would be published for but they haven't seen the 4th edition rules and they don't even know if they'd be allowed to publish adventures under the new license.

Thanks for sharing 'drew! I'm not too interested in the system itself, but I must admit the preview looks nice!

Has anyone taken a closer look at the last few Adventure Paths? Any compatibility to Mystara? Man I wish paizo could buy the rights to Mystara... ;)

I subscribe to pathfinder. I suppose Rise of the Runelords could be retrofitted to Mystara but it would take alot of work. Paizo is now writting their APs for their new world, Golarion, which has a slight oriental feel. The second AP, which just started with this month's issue, is called Curse of the Crimson Throne. I think this AP is entirely in the city of Korvosa so it could probably be imported into Mystara without too much trouble.

Thanks, Ray :)

If set in Mystara, what would be a good location for them?

RotRLs requires the PCs to travel long distances but uses OGL monsters. It would require a replacement starting village for Sandpoint or just place Sandpoint on the map; and a replacement city for Magnimar. Norwold could work. Alpha could be used for Magnimar and it would be easy to place all of the other locations there too. The only hitch would be the oriental feel in the lost city of Xin Shalast. I suppose that Xin Shalast could be placed on the Isle of Dawn in the plateau. That would put it near Ochalea but the GM would have to add a mountain range that's as tall as the Himalayas (the module calls for 26,000 feet +) to keep the city hidden from the outside world.

CotCT supposedly happens in a single city for the whole campaign. Thyatis City might be good from what I have read so far (the king is dead. long live the evil queen) but Paizo has only released the first module which I haven't finished reading. Don't know what would be best for it yet.
