#1zombiegleemaxAug 07, 2005 0:34:35 | I was going through my roleplaying collection recently and I started thumbing through the 2nd Edition Dark Sun boxed set. I suddenly remembered an unresolved metaplot thread that has always bothered me. In the sample adventure, Mystery of the Ancients the PCs can come across a table written in ancient halfling in area 10. The book has the following to say: "The message on the plaque hints at events to come that will eventually shake up the campaign world and take it in startling new directions. Watch future products for details." The text on the tablet reads as follows: "In the Fourth Age, Rhulisti shall return. The Gray Age becomes the Blue Age and the Wanderer shall return." I was fairly young when Dark Sun came out and I built up my collection after the line was canceled. My collection isn't complete, but as far as I know, the events foretold in the tablet text were never mentioned in another product. The adventure was written by Bill Slavicsek. I have always wondered what Mr. Slavicsek or the other designers at TSR had in mind for the big "shake up" on Athas. Anyone out there know? Anyone out there want to hazard a guess? |

#3zombiegleemaxAug 07, 2005 4:51:05 | part of the plan was that the messenger comet was a shuttle of sorts, and on it would be three ancient halflings, one of which would have been the "evil" nature-benders. it would have returned a few years after the free tyr 10 year. |
#4KamelionAug 07, 2005 5:31:44 | My personal feeling on this was that the Wanderer referred to in the engraving was Rahn Thes Onel, the last king of the rhul-thaun. I had assumed that he would be one of the three in the crashed Messenger. |
#5zombiegleemaxAug 07, 2005 8:20:39 | i assumed the same thing, mostly because of the plot hook in windriders of the jagged cliffs that had someone claiming to be him returning to the region and needing help getting to thamasku. that's what i've always assumed to be the case. i had thought the messenger simply held him, until the kevin melka interview had him saying it would have held three ancient halflings. the two extras on board simply make it more interesting. nic |
#6zombiegleemaxAug 07, 2005 11:19:47 | Where can I find more information on the Messenger comet? Or the "kevin melka" interview? |

#8PennarinAug 07, 2005 15:52:39 | I wouldn't consider the former leader of the Rhul Thaun as an "ancient halfling". I think that expression refers to rhulisti. |
#9SysaneAug 07, 2005 16:19:29 | I wouldn't consider the former leader of the Rhul Thaun as an "ancient halfling". I think that expression refers to rhulisti. What would be interesting is if Rahn Thes Onel was transported to the Messenger in some way. Be it thru the designs of the three rhulisti aboard the comet or by accident due to stumbling across some rhulisti relic. |
#10PennarinAug 07, 2005 16:31:36 | What would be interesting is if Rahn Thes Onel was transported to the Messenger in some way. Be it thru the designs of three rhulisti aboard the comet or by accident due to stumbling across some rhulisti relic. That I would buy: Thes Onel as a passenger on the Messenger, with the other three rhulisti. |

#17SysaneAug 08, 2005 14:19:47 | I wish I could remember the thread that had the brainstorms on what the rhulisti's goals would be once they emerged from the Messenger. I think it was addressed in a thread on the kreen invasion and another that was on the Messenger itself. Some good stuff in those post. |
#18xlorepdarkhelm_dupAug 08, 2005 14:44:57 | Ahh yes... my "mega metaplot for the end of the world" ideas :P |

#23SysaneAug 09, 2005 8:34:43 | is this the one? Yes that was one of them. There was another that focused more on the Messenger aspect though. |
#24jon_oracle_of_athasAug 10, 2005 7:22:00 | All bow to the Flayer! "Knuckles the thief bows to nobody!" - Bob in KODT Hmm, speaking of which, if someone would be willing to illustrate them, I'd revamp my Dark Sun KODT scripts. If anyone would be interested, drop me a line at athas@online.no. We'd probably have to change the name and use some different characters to avoid copyright infringement, but would be fun in any case. |
#25zombiegleemaxAug 10, 2005 12:31:31 | "Knuckles the thief bows to nobody!" - Bob in KODT I will leave it to the Flayer to decide your fate, insignificant thief. :evillaugh :D |
#26kalthandrixAug 10, 2005 18:12:56 | I will leave it to the Flayer to decide your fate, insignificant thief. :evillaugh The Flayer will kill and lay to waste all who oppose him- after he gets done with auditing a school this week- So Knuckles has about two days of living left to use to get used to the idea of not breathing or walking around anymore! :evillaugh :fight!: :fight!: :fight!: :fight!: |

Gather your armies, my Champion, and let the Cleansing begin! ...and remember to bring soap :D |
