Agathokles03-31-08, 04:26 AM | Hi all, I'm having a look at the various calendar systems of the KW nations. Most of them are aligned to the standard Thyatian system, with only different month and day names. The Shadowelf and Minrothad calendars, OTOH, have a different number of months. The Shadowelf calendar is explicitly aligned to the Thyatian calendar, though. The Minrothad (or Verdier) calender, OTOH, is said to have shifting lunar phases (which is uncommon, since the solar year takes exactly 12 lunar months in Mystara). However, it does have the same number of days has the other years (11 months of 30 days, plus an extra week at the end). I assume this was a mistake, and that the lunar phases are the same every year as in other Mystaran calendars. Then, the question is, which is the relation between the Verdier and Thyatian calendars? The easy answer would be Onmun 1st == Nuwmont 1st, aligning the New Year days, but Onmun 1st == Kaldmont 1st seems also possible. Is there any consensus or even canon data on this issue? GP |

As to when Onmun 1st is, it is Nuwmont 1st. a) The Gaz9 language "The calendar shown here is for the year 1000." b) Onmun 1 is listed as being a new moon (ditto the first of all Thyatian months) c) Onmun is "midwinter" with cold temperatures continuing in Tomun and Dreimun, weather warming in Dreimun d) Mitwok the Midwinter Festival that ends the year is a gift-giving celebration (read: Christmas). I think its clear that the author intent was for Onmun=Nuwmont=January. -OldDawg |
