Hey all,

I've recently ordered the four back-issues of Dragon containing the huge new Oerth map. I was wondering what methods all of you have come up with to preserve it. If it was printed on standard road map paper I wouldn't worry about just leaving them folded in the magazine for the time being. But "glossy" type paper tends to get brittle over time in my experience, especially around creases. I thought about lamination, but wouldn't that just give me four big, stiff sheets that would be hard to store or transport? Any suggestions would be most welcome.

I laminated mine. I figure that if I need to transport them, I can do it in a cardboard poster tube.

I bought two copies of each and laminated one set. They roll up decently easily and two or three rubber bands keep them from unrolling.

In all honesty, I would hi res scan the map and create backups (burn to CD or DVD) as your long term solution. Maps will get detroyed, no matter what you do. What is important is the info that it contains, so if you scan it, you get to have both, the info and the visual. Enjoy the physical map for as long as it will last, but use the computer image for more of the grunt work.

Just my two cents.

How the heck do you scan those maps? Their way to big to fit on a flatbed scanner, and folding them would just ruing them further.

it is never easy, that is for sure. You are just going to have to place the scanner in an open area on the floor and open the map and start scanning sections at a time. With a little of time and patience, you will have a complete map. I've done it before and it is never easy.

Bigger, much bigger and hexed. And purdy.
They're well worth it. I think you can get a low res preview on the Paizo site.

MUCH more detailed, too. One of the four quadrants of the Paizo map is the same size as the full LGG map.

I laminated one set of my copies, and then folded them: with time, and sufficient pressure buried under a stack of heavy tomes, they'll lie pretty flat.

Or turn into diamond.

It's a good result either way.

They were in Dungeon and you can still buy them at the link below.

By the way, the Istivin series of adventures is a must have for any Greyhawk fan. That adventure started with Dungeon #117, which was before the issues with the maps.

The four-part Greyhawk poster maps are in Dungeon issues 118 to 121. Paizo has a handy little page on their Web site where you can check these four unique issues out:

I hope this helps. Happy gaming.
