hello,

Are there any big advances in the metaplot/history of Dark Sun before the Revised Edition of Dark Sun? It's a bit confusing for me about what events took place in which book.

Basically, I would like to know which books I can use if I preferred staying as close to the history of the original boxed edition.

Dark Sun Monstrous Compendium Appendix II: Terrors Beyond Tyr (1995)
Thri-Kreen of Athas (1995)
Windriders of the Jagged Cliffs (1995)
Black Spine (1994)
City by the Silt Sea (1994)
Forest Maker (1994)
Will and the Way, The (1994)
Black Flames (1993)
City-State of Tyr (1993)
Complete Gladiator's Handbook, The (1993)
Dragon's Crown (1993)
Earth, Air, Fire, and Water (1993)
Elves of Athas (1993)
Ivory Triangle, The (1993)
Marauders of Nibenay (1993)
Merchant House of Amketch (1993)
Arcane Shadows (1992)
Asticlian Gambit (1992)
Dark Sun Monstrous Compendium Appendix: Terrors of the Desert (1992)
Dragon Kings (1992)
Dune Trader (1992)
Road to Urik (1992)
Slave Tribes (1992)
Valley of Dust and Fire (1992)
Veiled Alliance (1992)
Freedom (1991)

thanks very much. A follow up question, why aren't some of those earlier books like City State of Tyr in the list?

Is it because they advance a plot that changes the history of Athas (king gets killed or overthrown)?

Specifically:
City State of Tyr
Valley of Dust and Fire
Marauders of Nibeny

Personally I'd say that every DS product is worth using. Sure there are inconsistencies in near every one of 'em, but most of these are easily solved. The information that each product adds to the setting is just awesome in most cases.

As for pringles exclusion of certain books, I'm sure that's more just his preferences. Marauders of Nibenay, however, I'd surmise didn't make the list because of it's cataclysmic-like effect on the city-state of Nibenay (and the problems this might bring to individual campaigns). I for one still like most of the adventure, though.

FYI -- the entire list of books and Dragon/Dungeon magazines that had Dark Sun materials, is up on Athas.org.

It's kind strange when people disappear and you don't know where they've gone. I thought you'd been eaten!

I was still there, just lurking and not posting. It just that since June, the only thing you guys talk about are PRC and thing like that. Since I still play 2e edition, I have nothing to say on 3 edition rule and such. I only post on strictly Athasian subject.

Same with me (though I am oviously not being missed). It seems one doesn't have to play 2nd Edition to find the whole PrC issues relatively boring.

I find it hard to believe that any of you really know what a smurf is. You cannot possibly be old enough.

As for Pokemon, well, I am too old for that. The yellow fuzzy is cute, though.

I bet 3/4 of us are old enough to know. ;)

It being one of my most favorite cartoons during that part of my life, I hope I know what a smurf is, heh.

I saw smurf cartoons and read smurf comic books, even ate smurf candy. The coolest smurfs were the black ones that bit the other smurfs. :P

Umm..... exactly how young do you think we are here? there's a number of us at or around 30 years or older.

I only found Pokemon to be an interesting distraction during guard duty. It was behind my time, much like Dragonball Z, and that "Power Rangers" thing.

I remember watching smurfs when I was little. Pokemon, is far superior. I still like the pokemon cartoon, and I didn't even see it until my junior year in highschool. Smurfs however do not continue to hold their charm

Your never too old for Pokemon! :D :P

Eh, I started watching it a few years back just to see what the hubbub was about and got into it some.

Then after a few months I re-evaulated why the hell I was wasting my time watching such silly things, hehe.

Smurfs is far superior! With a much deeper, darker, ideal behind it all.

After all these years, after all my tireless efforts...I finally manage to get people to talk about Pokémon on the Dark Sun boards...

Yay!!!

IMAGE(http://pokemongenesis.altervista.org/personaggi/pikachu.png)

I watched the first three Pokémon movies with my younger siblings and we just got silly giving each other Poké-names and till today occasionally yelling "Pikachu! Thundershock attack!!!" at each other. I never played the game and watch almost no TV.

Absolutely. My two kids (7 and almost 4) are mad about the Power Rangers - particularly Dino Thunder, Wild Force and Idja Storm (as my youngest calls Ninja Storm, lol...)

You sure? They're only put out 200 different versions of the cartoon, I think the latest is their 201st.

Yea, but from what I've heard, only the first group was called "Mighty Morphin'" There was some moral and ethical issues to contend with about calling these power rangers something akin to "morphine" -- and it was literally attacked by the Christian Coalition, who forced them to need to change the name. I think the latest rendition I've heard of is like Power Rangers SPD or something (commercials air when I watch The Tick).

That sounds more appropriate since you have to be on massive amounts of LSD to find that stuff entertaining in the least, unless of course you're 12, heh.

Interesting, wondered why they changed their damn names so many times, heh.

Now see, The Tick is some quality programming. I need to start recording that, I totally forgot it was still on.

Lame old Power Rangers, yucky!
As for Smurfs I'll quote my Mother as we would wake up on Saturdays to see my (when they where new) 28 yo. uncle watching them on TV, "Little Blue Bass-turds".

I believe the whole point of The Tick coming back out on TV was to "test the waters" -- if it gets high enough ratings, then the animated series will go to DVD, and a new animated series will be done (with the guy who played Tick in the live-action show takingup the voice for the new animated series)

The Power Rangers wish they were as cool as the Smurfs.

The Tick is definitely quality too. The live action show was funny, but there just wasn't enough to it... each episode left me thinking "That's it?!? That was lame"

yea... but a lot of that was due to budget restrictions, and there is some significanty limitations for what you can do live-action compared to in a cartoon.

Cool. And I liked the guy in the live-action bit, it just seemed limiting too, keep it to cartoons I say.
