#1kismetroseSep 11, 2005 16:59:42 | Today and yesterday the site has been coming up with a message that it's been suspended. Does anyone know if this has happened before? I really hope the site will be back up; a lot of energy has been put into it... |
#2nightdruidSep 11, 2005 17:23:08 | Looks like they exceeded a monthly bandwidth, or the owner ran into financial difficulties. Pretty early in the month to exceed a set bandwidth, unless someone was hitting the site very, very hard. |
#3ripvanwormerSep 11, 2005 18:13:13 | Ken Marable indicated that there wasn't any financial problem when he spoke at Gen Con less than a month ago, but there is a donations button if, when it comes back up, you want to help him out. |
#4weenieSep 11, 2005 19:42:18 | From the pw_managers mailing list:This is news to me. Ken is out of town but will return tonight. I'm pretty sure the hosting bill went through in the beginning of the year. I wonder if we exceeded our bandwidth limit or something. |
#5zombiegleemaxSep 12, 2005 3:48:55 | :D |
#6Shemeska_the_MarauderSep 12, 2005 4:03:50 | I'd have replied sooner, but I was away from home all weekend and was gaming nearly the entire time (Shadowrun on Sat, PS on Sunday). Clueless has been getting in contact with the host, but it's hard to get answers because she's the coder but not the person paying the bills/the owner so they weren't wholly willing to immediately talk to us. We're trying to get in touch with Ken to see what is up. Money for hosting should not be an issue given that we've had enough donations to help cover it, plus a number of us, myself included, would be willing to cut a check to the host immediately if it was something that simple. My guess is either a check got lost in the mail, or arrived late and paperwork hasn't caught up on the host's end, or in some way it'd be kinda a backhanded compliment if we exceeded bandwidth allowance that we'd paid for simply because of popularity. As soon as I find out more I'll let folks know. I'm hedging my bets on bandwidth being exceeded, and if this is something that may be a frequent issue in the future, I'm willing to pitch in to cover the charges for additional bandwidth. |
#7nightdruidSep 12, 2005 5:33:22 | Something to consider is Planewalker just won the Silver Ennie. That may have generated enough traffic to put the site over its bandwidth limit. |
#8factol_rhys_dupSep 12, 2005 14:12:06 | If you haven't noticed, the site is currently down. Not to worry, it's We got caught into a loop (or someone was spamming refresh) on an SQL In the words of Danny Kaffee, "Now, I don't know what any of that means, but it sounds pretty bad." |
#9nightdruidSep 12, 2005 14:21:49 | In the words of Danny Kaffee, "Now, I don't know what any of that means, but it sounds pretty bad." In laymen's terms, what happened is a member of Planewalker tried to log on, it caused an error somewhere in the system, and the code didn't properly trap the error, so it kept causing additional errors that eventually crashed the system. |
#10zombiegleemaxSep 13, 2005 16:21:45 | Cool Was it me? :D |
#11zombiegleemaxSep 13, 2005 18:06:27 | Factol Rhys: Where did you find this information? Just wondering so I can check on it myself. Thanks ahead of time :D |
#12factol_rhys_dupSep 13, 2005 18:48:49 | It was on the pw_members yahoo mailing list. |
#13nightdruidSep 13, 2005 19:29:28 | Cool Yes. All your fault. |
#14zombiegleemaxSep 14, 2005 2:28:51 | Damn, I'm smooth |
#15zombiegleemaxSep 14, 2005 3:09:36 | Still dead |
#16nightdruidSep 14, 2005 6:32:15 | Still dead I'm not sure they can do anything until the website owner gets home (did I read it right that he's out of town?). Even after that it may take a little time to get it back up & running. |
#17zombiegleemaxSep 14, 2005 13:42:19 | It worked this morning but it's dead again For months, I've mostly been lurking there and now, for the first time I feel like i really NEED to post something :D |
#18kismetroseSep 14, 2005 14:18:02 | I was able to access it for a little while last night/early this morning but it looks like it's back down again. I'm with you, Almighty_Watashi. It's like the longer it's gone, the more I want it. |
#19nightdruidSep 14, 2005 19:00:24 | I was able to access it for a little while last night/early this morning but it looks like it's back down again. I'm with you, Almighty_Watashi. It's like the longer it's gone, the more I want it. Its likely that if they can work on it again, then they brought it up to do some testing, and took it back down when they were finished. My understanding is that they'll probably have to do some modifications to the code to see what's going on with untrapped errors. |
#20zombiegleemaxSep 15, 2005 3:06:36 | It work just long enough for me to download the "races" chapter and get the stats for a rogue modron. I always seem to lose their articles somewhere and need to go back for them every few weeks or so |
#21kwint_pendickSep 21, 2005 13:22:30 | Any update on what's goin' on with PW.com?... Kwint |
#22Shemeska_the_MarauderSep 21, 2005 14:26:08 | Any update on what's goin' on with PW.com?... Still working on the code. I'll ask Clueless once she's off of work. But as I understand it, she's been seriously busy with coding on other projects for work that had to be finished before the start of this week. |
#23nightdruidSep 21, 2005 14:34:43 | Still working on the code. I'll ask Clueless once she's off of work. But as I understand it, she's been seriously busy with coding on other projects for work that had to be finished before the start of this week. Why does that sound so familiar? Oh wait, that describes my life! ;) Scary... ;) |
#24verelorSep 28, 2005 17:51:31 | The poor website is still a dead duck. |
#25Shemeska_the_MarauderSep 28, 2005 18:00:22 | The poor website is still a dead duck. Clueless is aiming for it being up at the end of the week, with the forums up a bit after that. |
#26kismetroseSep 29, 2005 0:51:32 | This is good news. Now watch, everyone will raid the site once it's up. :D |
#27zombiegleemaxSep 29, 2005 16:01:00 | This is good news. Now watch, everyone will raid the site once it's up. :D Of course they will.... we all need to get our Planewalker.com fix But seriously, hopefully the site will be up to withstanding whatever is thrown at it. And hopefully not everyone will find out at once that the site is up. I guess we will see when the site finally comes up :D |
#28mrfilthyikeSep 29, 2005 17:14:37 | Man, you all are like crack addicts. |
#29factol_rhys_dupOct 03, 2005 23:35:12 | No planewalker makes me very sad. |
#30old_sageOct 04, 2005 23:51:52 | No planewalker makes me very sad. No planewalker makes me realise now that perhaps I should have spent more time there than I had previously... . |
#31Shemeska_the_MarauderOct 05, 2005 0:07:28 | It's on the way. I've seen the reworked version of the main core of the site. |
#32zombiegleemaxOct 05, 2005 17:43:59 | Much gnashing of teeth and chewing will occur if not! There WILL be chewing! THe teeth, they watch... they just... do. |
#33verelorOct 06, 2005 17:26:12 | You really learn to appreciate big, goofey planewlker.com when it's gone Sigh... Lol :D |
#34kwint_pendickOct 06, 2005 20:18:20 | Was just over at PW.com and it seems some of it is back up...Forums were still down, but there's progress and proof of it... Kwint |
#35Shemeska_the_MarauderOct 06, 2005 20:44:23 | Was just over at PW.com and it seems some of it is back up...Forums were still down, but there's progress and proof of it... Wasn't going to officially say anything about it, but yeah. Hammering out any remaining bugs at the moment after the code changes. |
#36zombiegleemaxOct 11, 2005 22:27:08 | Yep. She's back together. In a few more, the forums will be back up and then we'll be back where we were before. |
#37bob_the_efreetOct 12, 2005 0:54:52 | Yep. She's back together. In a few more, the forums will be back up and then we'll be back where we were before. Wow, you're a WizO now? Coolness, congratulations! |
#38Shemeska_the_MarauderOct 12, 2005 1:03:44 | Wow, you're a WizO now? Coolness, congratulations! Wiz-O Clueless has been a Wiz-O for over a year now ;) |
#39zombiegleemaxOct 12, 2005 11:23:35 | Opps - posted under my 'other' name. Yeah, I've been a wizo for ... a year and a half, give or take. |
#40kismetroseOct 12, 2005 16:16:16 | As I've been raiding the site (since it's back up), I've noticed that I get error messages when: I try to view individual armors, domains, skills, spells & powers, weapons, portals in the PS3e section. I also get error messages in Snail Outfitters. Most of the site's working well, though, and we're glad to see it back. :D Btw, you all know you're invited to my message boards, right? I've really been impressed with the level of thought expressed here (and on Planewalker, and Shemeska's Storyhour, etc.) and I've enjoyed everyone's input. My Planescape section is haunted pretty much by just me right now. |
#41zombiegleemaxOct 13, 2005 7:23:35 | Planescape fans are hard to find, so it might be better if we all gathered in one forum and not have everyone make his own |
#42zombiegleemaxOct 13, 2005 11:13:53 | Drop bugs under the Bug Reports link and I'll get it sorted out (I use that as my ToDo list)... |
#43zombiegleemaxOct 13, 2005 12:09:10 | : The Painter drops bugs in Clueless's pants! : WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! |
#44kismetroseOct 13, 2005 13:48:06 | Planescape fans are hard to find, so it might be better if we all gathered in one forum and not have everyone make his own Well, that's why I gave an invite - people can stop by or not, at their leisure, for whatever reason. |
#45zombiegleemaxOct 13, 2005 16:51:26 | eg when http://www.planewalker.com/forums/ isn't working :D |
#46zombiegleemaxOct 13, 2005 18:35:43 | Does anyone know when the forums will be up, or about when? |
#47bob_the_efreetOct 14, 2005 18:29:43 | Does anyone know when the forums will be up, or about when? Clueless needs some more virgins. Any volunteers? |
#48zombiegleemaxOct 14, 2005 18:42:18 | I got the forum code talking politely to the database again today so the basic functionality of looking at posts and such is done. So, best estimate is the forums are about halfway through what they need to be before I can put them back up safely - and I have a weekend halfway free (depending on how distracting Shemmy is). ;): The Painter drops bugs in Clueless's pants! : *suddenly Shrieks as something icky with multiple legs makes its prescence known - starts swatting at clothing in an entirely undignified manner* |
#49Shemeska_the_MarauderOct 14, 2005 19:25:45 | - and I have a weekend halfway free (depending on how distracting Shemmy is). ;) Muahahahaha! :angelhide |
#50zombiegleemaxOct 15, 2005 22:24:33 | Planescape fans are hard to find, so it might be better if we all gathered in one forum and not have everyone make his own I suspect its more popular than you think, especially when you cut out the detractors who hate it for reasons having nothing to do with the setting or just don't know what the heck their talking about. |
#51zombiegleemaxOct 16, 2005 18:40:16 | I ould even live with them because at least they know something about it. Lots of dnd players haven't even heard of it and just go "who is this planescape person anyway" Okay, so i think that people hating planescape and then confusing it for spelljammer shoud be taken out and shot, but those are mostly details :D |
#52zombiegleemaxOct 19, 2005 6:50:18 | Clueless needs some more virgins. Any volunteers? I'd raise my hand, but I have a vague memory of Clueless's husband being mentioned somewhere... |
#53zombiegleemaxOct 19, 2005 8:39:32 | I could find a few if you don't plan on damiging them They can be dogs, right? :embarrass |
#54bob_the_efreetOct 19, 2005 21:28:06 | I'd raise my hand, but I have a vague memory of Clueless's husband being mentioned somewhere... Oh, they're not for her. She needs to feed them to the masters so they'll give us our Planewalker back. |
#55zombiegleemaxOct 20, 2005 2:40:48 | I like planewalker.com and everything, but I think it's a waste of perfectly good dogs :embarrass |
#56zombiegleemaxOct 27, 2005 9:21:55 | But the dogs were put to good use!! ;) The forums are back up if you folks haven't noticed. Also: We have a new download, release v1.0 is up. This pdf contains v3.5 conversion of 2nd edition monsters from Astral Plane, Ethereal Plane, and the Plane of Shadow. See http://www.planewalker.com/codex/download.php |
#57zombiegleemaxOct 27, 2005 9:22:27 | I'd raise my hand, but I have a vague memory of Clueless's husband being mentioned somewhere... *cough* My *what*?!?! *eyes wide* |
#58zombiegleemaxOct 27, 2005 9:33:00 | Ain't no party like a the Painter paty! |
#59zombiegleemaxOct 27, 2005 10:47:49 | Anyone else doing NaNoWriMo this year? |
#60zombiegleemaxOct 27, 2005 10:50:16 | Perhapsitudinous! Who knows.... I'll write... things... stuff. Yes.... Maybe with illustrations! |
#61old_sageOct 27, 2005 11:36:53 | Anyone else doing NaNoWriMo this year? There's been movement on my part, but anything more than that needs time... ;) |
#62zombiegleemaxOct 27, 2005 11:48:16 | You've got a whole month! |
#63zombiegleemaxOct 27, 2005 12:01:48 | Hey now, kids. Novemember hasn't even begun. Hold yer horses! |
