#4cmrscorpioSep 24, 2005 22:24:36 | I wouldn't even mind them screwing it up as long as the actually do it. I've seen too many unfinished planescape computer game projects by now.
Ya, like City of Doors Initiative for Neverwinter Nights? I was so psyched when I found out about it. I think the initiative was started shortly after NWN was released. Now, its 3 years later. Its still not finished, and NWN2 is already scheduled for release mid next year. |
#6zombiegleemaxOct 27, 2005 7:02:55 | Actually CoDI is still active and here is a quote from their Bioware Website.
Hello everybody,
It's been quite a while since CODI has made any announcements regarding our status, and we appreciate everyone's patience during this period. Although we've admittedly been very quiet in our dealings with the public, I assure you that we are still very active behind closed doors. I can't go into detail just yet on the reasons behind our "secrecy," but hopefully we'll be able to reveal more soon.
In the meantime, I had a discussion with the rest of the CODI team regarding what to do with all the wonderful content sitting in limbo as Foundations (the originally planned CODI module) continues to be chiseled away at, and they agreed to allow me to use this material in my Threat of Dreams series.
Now, when you play Hour of the Tongue (the second installment of the Threat of Dreams series), you might notice some clues as to how the peerless Planescape setting might work its way into the storyline. I haven't 100% settled on using the CODI content in the ToD series, and even if I do, on whether it will be in the third installment, or as some sort of "spinoff" series, but I will do whatever I can to incorporate the material in a way that is not convoluted or gratuitous.
Rest assured, Foundations is not "dead," but other obligations have made it difficult for the CODI team to continue diligent work on it. Also, note that much of what you may have seen in the CODI galleries has been dedicated to other projects or is at such an early stage of completion it might never see the light of day. A good part of what we spent years working on has already appeared in Adam Miller's fine Demon module (particularly the Stem Interior and Sigil Exterior tilesets) or been uploaded to the Vault in individual releases.
In any event, we felt the community deserved an update on what we've been up to, so there you have it. As many of you know, we've experienced a few setbacks over the years in the way of team turnover, but we are currently very stable and very active.
We appreciate the fact that even with our relative silence over recent months, we continue to be asked about our status. It's both flattering and an honor to know that so many people are still excited about our projects - we're sure you won't be disappointed in what the future brings.

This was posted July 23, 2005, but was followed by a post Aug 10, 2005, which detailed about their website and why it didn't seem to be updated/working.
You weren't hallucinating. The CODI site was at one time much more expansive, with a full gallery, forums and so on, but it continued to be the victim of hackers until we dropped php and went with HTML. Now, we are aware there are measures that can be taken to make php more robust, but we just don't have the resources to maintain it (our time is best spent working on actual game projects).
We have recently been discussing updating the new gallery to include some of our past works, but for now this is only speculation. For the time being, we have our hands very full with a project that is doing quite well, and want to see it through before we tend to other distractions.
Oh--and that tall tower you mentioned (if it's what I'm thinking of) appears in the Demon module, already available on the Vault. I personally modeled the spire and Adam Miller refined the texture so he could use it with the Sigil tileset in his mod.
I know this isn't the answer you wanted, but hopefully you found it helpful.
So the CODI is not inactive/gone, but working behind closed doors. |
