Rakastas and Lupines

Oct 01, 2005 15:42:08 Ya know...I loved the Rakasta and Lupines of Mystra in 2ed D&D What happened to them? Why do I not find them in 3rd Edition? I would love to find them. I know Savage species has a cat person and stuff...But the Rakastas and Lupines had legacies and Cynabrill and Stuff.. that was AWSOME!

Oct 01, 2005 16:32:29 Lupins have been covered in a Dragon magazine article (#317, I think). There have been several different conversions of Rakastas on the web- check the Vaults of Pandius for them.

Tortles were featured in Dragon #315.
And Diaboli were featured in Dragon #327.

No 'official' Rakasta conversions yet, but like Traianus said, look on the Vaults of Pandius site and you will find numerous takes on the 3.x version.

Oh, and where are the rules for playing them in OD&D? Been a while since I played that version of the game... :embarrass

The rules for playing rakastas can be found in Champions of Mystara, page 93 of the "Heroes" booklet.
I don't recall seeing OD&D rules for lupins.

Rakasta and Lupins are indeed really cool races. But they always made me wonder...what is the relation between them and their animal versions? Do Lupins like dogs? And how to Rakasta feel about cats?

Lupins Beast Rider ride dire wolves and Lupasi, while Rakasta ride Feliquines.
OTOH, Lupins strongly dislike Caniquines and Rakasta keep Grudglings for pets (instead of or maybe along to standard cats).
So there doesn't seem to be a single relation between near-humans and the related animal species, though generally they seem to tolerate or even like them.

Oh, and where are the rules for playing them in OD&D? Been a while since I played that version of the game... :embarrass

They should be in the VotPA articles.

Not sure I'll buy it though, since I already have the mags with the Mystara relevant articles in them....perhaps if they have some new art for the races.... :D
