Can someone give me some info about that? I can't find Blaustein in the book. I assume it is different that the fairy tale of Bluebeard since that would be very difficult to make into an RPG adventure and the character would be instantly recognized. I don't own and 2nd ed. stuff though. |

He's immune to energy drain and can detect lies at will and can alter the memories of the native subjects of his realm as desired. Whenever he's attracted to a woman from his realm, he suddenly sees her as the rotting corpse of one of his wives, so he seeks romance with outsiders. |

Also there's a nice short story in the Tales of Ravenloft anthology that features Bluebeard. And if you want some nice ideas how Bluebeard is interacting with other domains check out Awakening's Reckonings campaign. |

A brief synopsis of Bluebeard is that he's like the character of the same name from the famous folk-tale, but without the happy ending. |

I suppose I could have him marry an NPC but then it would basically be the same old "go into the castle and rescue the maiden in distress" adventure. I mean it would be cool if I got him to marry a female PC but my players would just go "dude, that's freakin' Bluebeard, I'm not going to marry him". I don't want anything like "Reckonings" because I'm currently running a native-to-Ravenloft game with everyone at a very low level. |

If we'd made it to Gazetteer VII (The Sea of Sorrows), I wanted to rethink Blaustein as a pirate haven. Bluebeard himself, not being the nautical type, would have been running a protection racket -- offering Blaustein as safe harbor from patrols by the sea powers of the northwestern Core in return for a cut of the take. Toss Bluebeard his gold and the occasional kidnapped damsel, and you're free to do whatever you like, to whoever you want... unless they do it to you first. |

Epic PCs aside the background info, ideas and descriptions from that PbP game are easily adaptable for any campaign level. The Blaustein action is happening in this thread btw. |
