sbwilson 04-24-08, 07:06 PM	Since I'm in the wargaming mood lately (and at work without access to my books), I thought I would compile a list of great battles throughout the history of Mystara to maybe make into wargames at some point in the future. The ones I could come up with off the top of my head (I had to Google the dates though) are: - The Final Battle - Traldar/Beastman War in the Traladaran lands (1000 BC) - Battle of Sardal Pass in Rockhome (492 BC) - Battle of Braejr in Glantri (785 AC) - Alphatian Spike Assault in Thyatis(960 AC) I know I'm forgetting others, but I'm drawing a blank. Was there a decisive battle during WotI? What other single battles (not entire wars) have been described in canon materials?

I know there are probably some more listed in the text of the Gazetteers as well as the various boxed sets (Champions of Mystara, Hollow World, Red Steel etc) and the PC accessories (Tall Tales of the Wee Folk, etc). It will take more time to go through and find individual battles.

Lo_Zompatore 04-28-08, 08:23 AM	My two cents to this very interesting topic: - The "Battle of the Six Kings" cited in CM8 "The Endless Stair" module (in the library clues inside the room on the top of the Endless Stair). It is not mentioned who fought this battle and when. - The battle at Helskir between Alphatian and Thyatian armies following the kidnapping of Thincol and Eriadna in M5 "Talons of Night" module. It possibly happened in 1002 AC. - WotI lists many battles between Alphatians and Thyatians. In my opinion one of the most important battles of the war was the battle of Dawnpoint (in 1009DI, I think), where most of the aerial forces of the two empires (RAF and Alphatian skyships) severely damaged each other. Other important battles should be the two or three bloody battles fought in the Thyatian mainland after the Alphatian landfall. - The Dragonlord trilogy describe some great battles involving dragons: *** The siege of Braejr in book II (dragons versus an alliance of Flaems, elves, dwarves, Ethengarians, Darokinians and Thyatians of RAF) *** The battle of Braastar in book III (Flaems and dragons versus Flaems controlled by the overlord and gemstone dragons) *** The battles of Stahl and Karrak Pass (dwarves and dragons versus gemstone dragons and Overlord's minions, mostly monsters) *** The final battle against the Overlord, somewhere in the Adri Varma plateau (dragons against gemstone dragons and the Overlord's minions, mostly monsters)

Lo_Zompatore 05-07-08, 09:19 AM	Wow, the list above is really useful! :) If you like to add also the battle described in the Dragonlord Trilogy, the siege of Braejr (dragons vs Flames, Ethengarians, Darokinians, elves, dwarves and Thyatians, from Book 2 of the trilogy) might be set around 511 AC (no official date, but this seems the most probable year for the siege). The battles of Stahl and Karrak Pass, and the siege of Braastar and Braejr by the Overlord armies (book 3 of the Trilogy) might be set around 513 AC. Some more battles to add to your list: 2 BC: Thyatian revolt against the Alphatians (Thyatians vs Alphatians DotE) 87-88 AC: Corwyn Attleson defeats in a major battle an army of orcs threatening Darokin City (Darokinians and elves vs orcs GAZ 11) 313 AC: Siege of Thyatis City by an Hattian army, repelled by Emperor Alexian II (Hattians vs Thyatians and Kerendans DotE) 503 AC: Death of King Mithras V in battle against elves during the Elfwar (Darokinians vs elves GAZ 11) 614 AC: Battle of Bridenfjord: break of the Ostlanders naval siege of Norrvik thanks to the ships of Ottar the Just and his allies. The battle is the starting point of Vestland independence (Ostland vs Vestland GAZ 7) 825 AC: Battle of Ylaruam (Al-Kalim nomads vs Alphatians GAZ 2) 826 AC: Battles of Cinsa-Men-Noo, Parsa and Ctesiphon. The gnoll's defeat is followed by the fusion of the two baronies in the new Saragon barony (Saragon vs Yazi gnolls SC). 980 AC approx: Battle of Porto Preto, between Texeiran and Vilaverdian ships (Texeira vs Vilaverde SC) 988 AC: Battle of Raven-Meet, that begins the Thyatian conquest of the Davanian Hinterlands (Thyatians vs Hinterlanders DotE) Lastly, TM2 accessory map shows a lot of battles in the Dunadale/Westrourke/Redstone area, with a place and a date. Supposedly these are all battles between Thyatians and Alphatians.
sbwilson 05-07-08, 03:57 PM	Ah yes...I forgot the Dragonlord battles. I only read those books once...a very long time ago and don't remember much about them. As of right now, the above lists only the battles mentioned in this thread. So any others that people can find and post here can be added. When I find the time, I'll dig through all the source material (including the maps) and see what little hidden treasures I can find, but that might take me a long time to get around to.
