Greetings fellow gamers,

I am missing something in my DS campaign. Looking jealously to the heraldric signs of Grehawk i was wondering if someone has or is busy making heraldric symbols for the merchant- and noble house an/or city states..

Geez that's a rather nice idea. It could be a excellent project for someone here with an artist talent!

And btw, I know that nobody as done such thing in the past. BUT that would be a good idea to do so.

Is there a list of established heraldic devices mentioned in various books and supplements?

Good idea! And Sage is indeed the right guy for the job.

Dragon's Crown also mentions that the colors of Hamanu's army were red and black, but the reference is maybe a thousand years old so those colors may have changed.

As recent as Free Year 2 (as noted in the Crimson Legion) the urikite soldiers are still wearing red and black, and with Urik being the unchanging city, I doubt this will have changed since then.

Cool! I never found the reference in the PP to those colors, so could never be sure it wasn't a product error. Thanks for the confirmation squid

So, Urik's amy wears the red and black, and some of the templars white while others yellow.

I am quite new at this forum and must say, I am glad of the good response. I myself am not a very good artist in the drawing skill and so trust that the selected person is the best man for the job. The missing heraldry on the city states, noble and merchant houses has always been a mssing part in a lifely adventure.

Hope it will work out to be a work of art. Btw, there are mentioning on heraldry in many pocket books, dune trader, veiled alliance and official adventures (see: Freedom on the heraldry of the Noble Tyrtani family).

Keep me posted on this quest.

Cheers mates

IIRC Hamanu's heraldry was Red/Black with a Lion background. Makes sense, eh?

Taking info from RaFoaDK all templars wear yellow robes. In addition, they may choose to wear white cloaks (and are the only ones allowed, by law, to do so).

Actually, it was never anything so static as this. As mentioned in Veiled Alliance, the variations on the Urik standard are near innumerable. However, most show, in some form or another, either Hamanu or a lion motiff.

Yeah, but there may be different info in the Setting Boxed Set and in VA, where I recall reading about white-robed or cloaked templars. That's why I said both colors are probably true: ordinary templars could wear white, and those who take the Yellow Robe PrC wear yellow, or somehting to that effect...

I'll need to collect all the information I can about the heraldry of Athas, so I'll start looking through my books to find it. But does anyone know which books I should check first, or of any obscure mentions of heraldry (like in the novels or adventures)?

You might check the Crimson Legion first, I think it would describe the banners of Hamanu's or maybe even the Tyrians armies. After that I'm not too certain, I remember tid bits but I dont remember where they came from

I don't know if that was meant, but I once made emblemes of the houses Inika, Shom, Stel, Tsalaxa, Vordon and M'ke with Photoshop, based on the descriptions in Dune Traders, that I'm using in my campaign. If anybody is intrested I could mail them to those, who wishes to take a look at them.

Veilled Alliance (a good overview of what each City-State's Templar's wear, including symbols)

Dune Trader (for the Merchant Houses)

City-State of Tyr (I think) has some info on the Noble houses.
