#1npc_daveOct 18, 2005 15:02:27 | I realize Ierendi numbers among the least favorite of the gazeteers, but I am playing it more or less as is in my campaign(with greater emphasis on Ierendi being a mercenary power). I was looking through running the adventure park scenarios, and noticed some incomplete details with respect to the second scenario, The Hill Giant of Crater Marsh. Neither of the scenarios is fully fleshed out with stats for monsters, but it feels like Crater Marsh is missing a few sentences. It mentions that PCs can follow a boar's footprints in location 3) as the safest way through the marsh, but does not mention if the boar was present in front of the PCs or not, nor does it put the tracks on the map. It also mentions pterodactyl riders in location 7) on the rock top along with the hill giant which you would think would be significant, but their only mention is as if they have already been mentioned, and they can fly away with the captive the giant has if the PCs do not keep to the time allotted. I wonder if there was a sentence chopped which described the pterodactyl riders engaging the PCs along the grassland as they head for the crater. Did anyone have an errata for this? As an interesting aside, I like the secrets on White Island and Honor Island which provide plenty of ammunition for player ideas when they are told those islands are off limits, but now there is an ironic coincidence in this 1980's game supplement which has relevance in 2005. There are a total of 108 druids on White Island, and that number always stays constant, a druid appears as a child whenever one dies on the island. For those who have been watching the TV series Lost this season, this number has a special meaning. SPOILERS FOR LOST Show My players are going to assume there is a druid in a hatch somewhere on White Island, typing a numeric sequence on a keyboard every 108 minutes to make sure the world is not destroyed. |

Well, I haven't really done anything with the idea, except to realize that if you wanted to run a campaign similar to the Lost tv show, White Island is the perfect place for it. So far my players have considered the warnings and stayed away. Once we get through more of the second season of the show I might have more ideas, right now I think I know where the show is going, but it is a bit too soon to say. |
#6npc_daveNov 04, 2005 16:45:11 | In case anyone was interested, I discovered what was missing in the Crater Marsh scenario. The text mentions a Crater Marsh table, which apparently contained the data that is cryptically referenced in the text. However, the table was dropped from the Gazeteer, and I noticed that 19 years too late to get errata. Oh well. |
