Spell Book Pocket- Proposed Arcane Spell for DS

Oct 18, 2005 23:24:34 OK, I really never bought the idea that a knotted rope could make do for a spellbook. What about a 2nd level arcane spell with Somatic, Verbal and Material Components that allow you to create an extra dimensional pocket in an item of clothing to hide your spellbook. The material components would be the item of clothing and the spellbook. The duration would be 24 hours.

Thoughts?

As for the spellbook issue, keep in mind arcane spellcasters have been persecuted for many centuries now, and in order for thier kind to avoid detection they have to continue to develop ingenious methods to hide their nature. Making a spellbook from rope? Too me it sounds rather ingenious, provided an explanation of the specifics are included. For instance, how does a wizard study from a piece of rope, unless there is in itself a magical process which allows the wizard to study his spells.

Oct 19, 2005 2:21:25 As a real life history fact the Inca recorded everything on colored strings that they would tie knots into in particular intervals and they used several colors of string to keep records ranging from food stores to birth and death records. Given enough colors and combinations you could come up with a code for nearly anything you might want to record.

I had always found it a hard thing to believe until I learned that the Inca recorded everything that happened in their lives that way.

If you can't swallow knots in string try artwork on animal skins or carvings on rock or wood.
how about a spell hiding in the colored bead work of necklaces, ornate bracelets or jewelry, maybe cut into strips of leather or dyed on them, how about sewn into their clothes?

There are hundreds of ways you could hide your spells, these are probably some of the more obvious ones.
