I was just wondering- how well do you think humans and other races would far if they were to travel in to the Crimson Savanna and the Kreen Empire?

I think that they would sort of be like the Romans- everyone is welcome, but only citizans had any rights.

Thoughts??

I would say it would be entirely contextual.

A party of 5th level humanoids who simply "wandered west in search of fame and fortune" would probably be slaughtered and eaten on sight. A party with a 10th-level ranger or two trying to "get in, grab something, and get out" could probably have a go at it in one of the outlying outposts, but not in any of the major cities. A party with a Kreen member and lots of great Diplomacy and Bluff checks could also pull it off.

I velieve Thri-Kreen of Athas mentions that they'd most likely end up on dinner plates. The Tohr-Kreen tend to have the distinction of viewing the world in either Kreen (people) or not-Kreen (not-people) lines. I think they'd even view the Trin ("near Kreen" mantis insects) as a higher form of life than they would humanoids.

Basically, I would play it that an adventuring party going into the Crimson Savannah would become mega-hunted by any Tohr-Kreen who finds them. If the gorup has a Thri-Kreen with them, I might let that Thri-Kreen character make a genetic memory check to receive a warning, if not (or if it goes unheeded), then he'll probably end up captured and enslaved (most of the TK's in the Tablelands were descended from rebellious and freed slaves from the TK Empire), while the rest of the group gets flayed and eaten.

Remember: The Tohr-Kreen aren't into being all that friendly. They are a society of expansionistic insectoids who would just as soon eat you as even acknowledge your presence. They don't concider any non-Kreen as even remotely sentient.

How would you react if a big tasty sandwich on legs walked up to you? Oh look! The sandwich brought a couple friends . . . Potato Salad and Bar-B-Q Chips! Mmmmm, mobile food . . . ::

An interesting idea would be if the party disguised themselves (thru magical or psionic means) as kreen to infiltrate the Empire. (this isn't wholly original. I base this off a Deep Space Nine Episode)

There is also the possibility that the whole group is made up of Kreen- someone had a campaign like this IIRC. The kreen empire would be a great jumping off point- maybe the whole point of the campaign is leading up to the kreen invasion of the Tablelands and the PC's all play a role in making it happen or stopping it.

If they were members of the Tohr-Kreen subspecii, then yes. However, if they were Tablelands-originated Thri-Kreen, they'd most likely be captured and enslaved.

The two subspecies found in the tablelands also exist in the Kreen Empire. Obviously that wouldn't be enough to convince the Tohr-Kreen that you were one on them, but a Thri-Kreen character wouldn't need to disguise itself as a different subspecies.

Here's what would happen if a party of humanoid adventurers went into the Kreen Empire - They'd get captured, brought before the Terminus Vortexa (Athas' only Kreen Dragon) and have their life leeched for an epic spell to kill yet more fleshy and inferior creatures from the Tablelands. :D

Which is why they would be armed with a bottle of Epic Raid- to kill big bugs dead! :D

Terminus Vortexa is immune to poison. He'd just huff the whole can as a show of contempt, then he'd dress them up like exterminators before he life-drained them! :D
Term- Kills humanoids. Dead.

I wish I would import my first character ever, named Dragonslayer- I kid you not. I made him when I was 10 and was playing the Basic D&D in the red box. Well he got huge- and I played him through 1st and 2e. I have kinda converted him to 3.5 and he would he cool to play again. He was a 21/24 fighter/wizard (after loosing mad levels from the conversion). He killed and ate dragons for breakfast and a DS Dragon would be an interesting battle. When we moved campaigns from the basic world the D&D was in into a homebrewed world that my uncle made, we transported his whole city with us, and I was half tempted to pick up Planescape just so he could fly around in his mobile city.

I always enjoy converting my stone-age 2E characters into 3.5, too. Your Dragonslayer sounds pretty brutal!
