Greetings all. I'm a short-time troller, first-time poster:

First off, a brief history of my knowledge of Dragonlance. I'm currently reading the first chronicles and I'm almost done with Autumn Twilight. Very good stuff. I am aware of a broad summary of the war timelines and know a great deal about the gods by reading Holy Order of the Stars.

I am currently playing in the "Key of Destiny" module being run by fellow board member Devonlancer. I recommend reading his post to learn about my character and fellow party members in a general manner. However, this post is far more specific...

My question to the members of this board is this: "Is there any particular way I should be playing a cleric of Zivilyn and, ultimately, an Alluvial Oracle prestige class?"
- Is there any "canon" material relating to Zivilyn or the River of Time I should know about? Preferably by Weis or Hickman, but anything will do.
- How should I describe the choice and devine effects of my spells? So far, I have only picked spells that seem to relate to divination and the altering of the River of Time with healing being not her primary focus. My GM is running the alternate rule in HOoS about defaulting spells only to domain, not healing, spells and due to taking the Time and Knowledge domain, my group has to be a bit careful :D

I probably have more questions, but this should be enough to get people thinking on this path.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give and feel free to ask any specific questions about my character to help in forming your opinion.

Is she the primary healer or are there backups, etc?

I am the primary healer, but there is another cleric in the group who is going to ultimately be a Solamnic Knight, so his spell choices are primary buffs for himself in combat.

Hope that helps

Yes, he is a follower of kiri-jolith.
Not sure quite where you are going with this?
My question relates more to what the mannerisms and world view of a follower of Zivlyn would be, not in comparison to the others in my group.

But thanks for the interest in keeping the tread somewhat alive :D

Cleric of Zivilyn!?!?

Why in this make believe world would you or anyone ever play a cleric of Zivilyn!? That’s completely worthless! Why would any DM ever agree to let you play that class? A blind, one-armed fighter would contribute more to the party. Seriously, are you on drugs? Is your DM on drugs? You’re on drugs. Dude, lay off the smack. I mean honestly, what do you expect to do during an adventure? No, no, wait… don’t tell me. I can see it now…

::Torchlight flickered with an inconsistent ruddy light, making shadows dance along the smooth stone hall. Stepping cautiously down the tunnel, the adventurers soon heard the shuffling footsteps of an advancing force. Guttural, inhuman grunts and the scrapes of metal on stone echoed from down the hall. A moment later, beady red eyes appeared from within the shadows. Three orcs stepped from the darkness, blades drawn as they approached the battle-weary party.::

Cleric of Zivilyn: “I foresee there’s going to be a battle!”

Way to go, Nostradamus. How did you ever figure that one out? My advice – if the people you play with are your friends, do them all a favor and drop out of the game now so that the phat lewt can be split more evenly amongst the party members who contribute something more than “I foresee there’s traps in this dungeon! .. or perhaps the next dungeon! Someone might get trapped. Or maybe it’s a mouse. Well, in any case, I foresee that I’m going to have a sandwich for lunch! … or maybe tuna salad. That’s it! A tuna salad sandwich!!” You’d be more helpful playing the wizard’s familiar. You should be shot for even suggesting playing that class. Shot. Then hung. Then burned. I pity the party that suffers you as a role-player. You are a shame to the community. Shame, I say. SHAME!!

(Author’s Note: This post is purely satirical. I have nothing against Clerics, Zivilyn, or Tuna Salad Sandwiches. This was meant to be funny, not serious. A personal joke between JudgeIto and I. So please refrain from posting flaming responses to this. Personally, I think that Clerics of Zivilyn can be extremely valuable to a party. Kind of like a doorknob. :D)

Perhaps you could be an advisor to the leader of the group? A wise sage type of person?

Here's some generalizations I tend to follow when considering Zivilynites:
Clerics of Zivilyn are, like their deity, wise and balanced individuals.
They're able to see all sides of an issue, they tend to be wise and practical, with the right word of wisdom or advice for just the occasion, and tend not to worry too much about pomp and ceremony.
They reverence nature and her ways, seeking to live in harmony with the natural world and its creatures.
They also tend to make great teachers, wise with their years of experience, and calm with their inexhaustible supply of patience, empathy, and understanding.
In an adventuring party, Zivilynites tend to be the wise counselor or spiritual head of the group, the quiet, kind, and wise heart of the group.
But I also think that Zivilynites would tend to speak their minds, and are utterly fearless in their advocacy for physical and spiritual freedoms for everyone.
Zivilyn's faith reminds me a lot of Buddhism, actually, with its emphasis on wisdom, compassion, and learning.

Is there really such a thing a neutral-aligned clerics in Dragonlance? I know there are good-aligned clerics (followers of Paladine and Mishakal are examples) and evil-aligned clerics (i.e., followers of Takhisis), but neutral-aligned clerics? I've always wondered about that, you know.

Of course. They just don't get a lot of screen time.

Cheers,

The dwarves have a neutral god, Reorx and the Knights of Solamnia are adapting Shinare as a patron, though how this makes sense hasnt yet been explained yet, at least in a satisfactory manner.
