#1spellweaverNov 23, 2005 9:54:56 | As I was flipping through the Rockhome gaz, I noticed that a few of the dwarven names for the months were missing. I looked through the vaults but could not find any lists of them. Does anyone here know if they were ever done? And one more thing: on page 27 of the Rockhome gaz it says that Thaumont 1st is the dwarven New Year and not Nuwmont 1st as with the human cultures (Nuwmont corresponding to January). Has anyone ever wondered why this is? or used it in their campaigns? I can think of a lot of reason NOT to have a different New Year but not a single good one to have a different date (except tradition, which is a bit odd). The months in the dwarf calendar are: Nuwmont - Vatermont - Thaumont - Hralin ('Greenmonth') Flaurmont - Hwyrlin ('Windmonth') Yarthmont - Styrlin ('Bluemonth') Klarmont - Bahrlin ('Sunmonth') Felmont - Buhrlin ('Firemonth') Fyrmont - Ambyrmont - Barrlin ('Yellowmonth') Sviftmont - Eirmont - Jhyrlin ('Orangemonth') Kaldmont -Kuldlin ('Northmonth') :-) Jesper |

#3zombiegleemaxNov 23, 2005 10:24:54 | IIRC, I think that the Poor Wizard's Almanac II (or III) has the full list of dwarven months' names. I'll try to check it. If I'll find something, I'll post it. |
#4gazza555Nov 23, 2005 10:32:25 | To save some time, here you go Wharlin Morlin Hralin Hwyrlin Styrlin Bahrlin Buhrlin Klintlin Burlin Biflin Jhyrlin Kuldlin Regards, Gary |
#5spellweaverNov 23, 2005 10:51:56 | Thanks! Any clue why the dwarves are two months behind celebrating New Years? :-) Jesper |
#6gazza555Nov 23, 2005 10:55:32 | Any clue why the dwarves are two months behind celebrating New Years? It takes two months for the light to seep underground. :D Regards Gary |
#7katana_oneNov 23, 2005 11:07:30 | Thanks! Maybe they're not two months late - everyone else just celebrates two months early ... |
#8pointmanNov 23, 2005 17:43:14 | I can think of a lot of reason NOT to have a different New Year but not a single good one to have a different date (except tradition, which is a bit odd). How about January is still the middle of winter, celebrating a New Year when food can be scarce, trade difficult. Spring would be a better time. Traditionally, don't we classify the year as beginning with spring and ending with Winter per the seasons? Food is easier to obtain. Weather improves. Maybe the Dwarfs are more sensible then the rest. |
#9twin_campaignsNov 24, 2005 10:51:04 | Compare this to the Ethengars whose New Year begins when the clans gather together at the end of the summer. And besides, lobbying for the Thyatian calendar with their "Nuwmont" is just plain ideological imperialism! |
