Can anyone give me some detailed information on this artifact and it's history. I've been considering running a campaign based around locating it's "lost" pages and using them to prevent another cataclysm or worse. I thumbed through war of the lance last month and noticed it under the artifact section. I had little time and was unable to read further. I was wondering if that book gave hard rules or if rules as an artifact exist elsewhere. Any information from 2nd edition sources or novels are welcomed.

The Iconochronos is one long scroll about the entire history of Krynn, written by the Master Lorekeeper, Astinus of Palanthus. The scroll is depicted with many pictures during key events, but the artist(s) is unknown. Or more realistically, it's a bunch of history scrolls.

Ansalonian history is divided into many "ages". Astinus use this artifact call the globe of present time passing, given to him by Master of Past and Present. It said that Astinus only travel as far back 2 000 years to view and record the history. To go back further would be difficult.

I think Astinus only "appear" late in the Age of Dreams. Iconochronos is based not only on the effort of Astinus but notes from other historians.

--------

I don't play nor read anything about Dragonlance since the 3rd edition. so this is all 2nd edition material. Source; Tales of the Lance, World Book of Ansalon. All this is old school stuff and probly change with all the new materials.

1.The Age of Starbith-(age of gods)

In all, High God awakens, writes a book called the Tobril. Gods are called forth. Reorx hammers out Krynn. Creation of Dragons, all-dragon war, all-saint war. etc...

the source of this history is the Plates of Pakafhas, a historian and religious leader from the Age of Dream. They said his notes are apocryphal, nevertheless it is the most reliable source of history of that time period.

2.The Age of Dream 9 000 - 5 000 pc (prae cataclius)- (foundation age)

In all, the ogres were the first to civilization. Heresy of Igraine leads to the fall of ogres. Rise of the elves. etc...

the source of this history are folk songs and ballads. All this songs were compiled into one big scroll known as the Lifescroll of Song by a elven bard. The bard historian is Quevalin Soth of Silvanesti. A copy of the scroll was presented to the Library of the Ages at Palanthus.

3. The Age of Light 4 000 - 2 000 pc - (age of elves)

In all, Rise of Silvanesti. First Dragon War. Graystone forged. First dwarf kingdom; Kal-Thax. Thoradin delved. Balifor. Second Dragon War. Rise of Ergoth, first human empire. Kinslayer war. Swordsheath scroll. etc..

4. The Age of Right 2 000 - 1000 pc - (knights of solamnia)

In all, fall of Ergoth. Rise of Solamnia. Third Dragon War. Huma Dragonbane. etc..

the source of this history were these silver disks found in the tomb of the legendary knight Huma. These disks, the Knights Annals, talk about Solomnia and the third Dragon War.

5. The Age of Might 1 000 pc - 0 - (age of the false god)

In all, rise of Ishtar. Thorbardin begins Tree of Life. Ogre wars/Dwarfmeld. Siege on Sorcery. Cataclysm.

the source of this history is from the rulership of Karthay Pah of Istar. He ordered the keeping of a chronicle. They were writen on plates of gold and silver. however there some on clay tablets. A scribe travel to Ishtar, and began transcribing the records on the scrolls and sent them back to the Library.

6. The Age of Darkness 1 ac- ?? - (age of dragons)

well i hope you know what happen here...

the source of this history is Tale of the Nightfall Years, a record of personal letters and recollections of the heroes and knights of Solamnia. It was put together by Astinus.

thank you... that's helpful. What makes it an artifact besides being old.....? Since it was in the artifact section of war of the lance(so I think).

It's divinely inspired, so to speak.

....so it has no game mechanics?

It has an entry in the War of the Lance sourcebook, with appropriate game stats.

Cheers,
