Fabricio and Bruno from Dark Sun Brazil have joined the Spells and Powers Bureau.

We're happy to extend our relations with our Brazilian fans.

Fabricio is responsible for coordinating translation of our products. A french translation team would be neat. Perhaps Fabricio could coordinate some of the french-canadians who're ranting about their great numbers, if they are willing to step up.

Dunno if a french conversion wold be necessary. Yes, us quebecer DS lovers are numerous on the boards, but most of us know english very well, having Canada and the States on our doorsteps.

Besides, has anyone seen an actual French person here?

Ahem...I am willing to convert some material into French, if only to appease one of my hardcore quebecer players who, although he understands enough english to get by, would be well served to have a neat translation of the Athas.org 3.5 material. I think Jon's idea is great, and his lightning bolts overrated.

Truth be told, though, I don't know how to make pdf's! hehheh!

I think that 99% of the Brazilian readers don't know/post/read these boards... So do all of the Spanish-speaking ones.

And yet their numbers are very great and increasing...

I think a spanish version would be more useful, since 80% of Americans (the continent, not U.S.) speaks it.

Yeah, I hadn't thought about the large spanish speaking population of the Americas.
In any event, translations in a few languages wouldn't hurt, help spread the good word of Athas.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. We are happy to be here and for being allowed to add something to Athas.org work.

***

Since we brougth to table the Translation subject let me update the DS community:

1st - The Brazilian project has already translated the following books:
1) DS 3.5 Core Book (previous to the EPH) - We're waiting for the final release to come to translate it.
2) Terrors of The Dead Lands (Previos to the currently version) - We're almost done translating the final version of this one.
3) Terrors of AThas.
4) City-State of Draj
5) Whispers of The Storm
6) Dregoth Ascending I - Will be released early December.
7) Prestige Classes - Appendix I
8) The Expanded Psionics Handbook's SRD
9) Tyrian Conspiracy
10) Several tales (10+), Articles, Interviews etc.

2nd - The Italian Translation Project has already started its activities though they suffered a major delay

3rd - The Spanish DS mailing list is translating several Athas.org's books and they are using the Brazilian DS-Translation Glossary as base for their work. So it's expected a proximity between the two projects in order to unify and build a Two Languages DS Terms Glossary.

4th - One of the voluntaries of the french project has spoken to me early this year asking for advices. Sadly I never heard of the french project again, except for short comments.

5th - The main goal is to build a Multi-lingual DS Terms Glossary so every world citizen would be able to refer and understand names and technical words no matter the language his DS books are. It's also desired to keep track of the translations ir order to direct and unite all people who have the same goal.

Anyone willing to start a translaction projetc feel free to ask for advices and support. I'm all ears. If you wish to do it in spanish or in french I can even proof-read it, provided you aren't in a hurry.

There already were a couple of peoples, if I remember well, that were working on a MTL (master translation list). I still have a version at home, but I think David was hosting the updated list. There as different translations languages on this MTL. He used this list of athas term to put them on is maps.

I have an updated version of David's Master Translation List (MTL). I asked him in June if he could send me a copy, because I wanted to translate more things into German (I already translated everything in the "German" section of the MTL as well as the map of the Tablelands).
Sadly, that was the last time I communicated with David.

Wow, nice stuff Fabricio, I'm impressed. I would love to learn how to make spiffy PDF's like yours. I do believe they outshine, visually at least since I can't read spanish, the documents found on Athas.org ;) hehheh

Grummore, si tu a une couple de projets en ligne digne d'une traduction de Dark Sun, peut etre qu'on devrait se mettre nos tetes de grenouille ensemble et faire quelque chose de fonctionable pour le restant du monde francophone. En tous cas, juste mes 2 cennes, j'suis encore le petit nouveau ici!!

Our major goal at Dark Sun Brasil is to translate everything Athas.org has published, that really keeps us busy. Nonetheless, we are currently writting a supplement. Besides that, everything that we have published in portuguese you have in english, either because it is Athas.org's material, either because we translated it to english and sent to Jon, Flip or someone else at Athas.org.

Thanks Gustav. Althought I can't teach you how to do it, at least I can do it for you.
BTW.. our books are in portuguese ;) , that is our native language, not spanish. Brasil is the only country in Latin America that speaks portuguese.

Grummore et Gustav, si vous avez de besoin de n'importe quel sort de sugéstion ou support, soyez a l'aise. Il se peut que je ne sache pas trés bien le français, mais je peut vous aider avec le glossaire.

Now that Fabricio is on the athas.org team, we *might* update our pdfs with a mory spiffy layout. It's at least something we will discuss.

Gustav, Brazilians speak Portuguese, otherwise we wouldn't need a Spanish translation team since almost all athas.org material is already translated in our site.

OK, first I would like to say congratulations to you guys.
However the real reason I wanted to post is to ask if you do pdf's or documentation professionally? I looked at your PDF’s they look like professional publications. How long does it take you guys to get one average sized PDF out? The work looks awesome no wonder you guys are now part of athas.org
