#1joshdw4Dec 05, 2005 8:00:02 | I found the bit about fiend posession in the Book of Vile Darkness and figured it would be an interesting trick. However, one bit confused me. For a fiend to possess someone, they have to be on the ethereal plane close to that person. My first thought was, how can a fiend possibly get to the ethereal plane? In the current D&D cosmology, I thought the only way they could get there (besides random portals) is to go Outer->Astral->Prime->Ethereal. I may be wrong on this, but I thought fiends couldn't touch the Prime unless Gated/Summoned (except Succubus, which seem to be the only ones capable of this). |

Fiends who wish to posess people have to go the Outer>Astral>Material>Ethereal route, yes, unless they find a more direct portal. It's kind of a roundabout trip, but it's not impossible. |
