#1YeomanDec 13, 2005 18:22:00 | So, we've had the chance to visit the.....ahem...'Free City' (the city that dare not speak its name), treked through the Cairn Hills, entered the Amedio jungle and had the promise of a visit to the Rift Canyon. Along the way tangling with Kyuss beasties, and none other than Dragotha on the horizon, all epic stuff with plenty of Hawk goodness for those looking to pull a few references together.... From what I understand this campaign arc has been a good success for Paizo. So the question is, where to next? What direction would a Greyhawk audience next like to see Eric & co. tread? What personalities are on your wish list? To kick off, I would very much like to see a Sea of Dust feature, a trip to the Sinking Isle, a look at what really does lie in the Drachensgrab hills, or the City of the Gods. Time to dust off Lum The Mad's Machine, or unearth the Mighty servant of Leuk-O? In the season of wishes, what would the fans like to see? |
#2ajsDec 13, 2005 20:26:27 | I would love to see something that ties Greyhawk into some of the changes that have been happening in D&D. Perhaps a storyline that covers the introduction of Incarnium (or was that what the Bright Desert storyline in LG was aiming at?) or some of the concepts from some of the genre or race books. Other than that, how about something in the Uleks? The Pomarj is always a thorn in their side, and a great source of drama. |
#3AmarilDec 13, 2005 21:25:20 | My personal choices include one of these: a. the exploration and reconstruction of Old Almor and the nearby nations and "mysterious places" b. politics with Celene and the Ulek states, battle-oriented adventures in the Principality of Ulek, the Pomarj (something better than Patriots of Ulek), and the Wild Coast. |
#4mordoDec 14, 2005 7:03:12 | Dungeon 131 will feature a 12th level GREYHAWK adventure: The Hateful Legacy, by Greg A. Vaughan, which take place after the Hateful Wars. Unfortunatly for those who wanted an adventure set in Ulek, it is said to be located in the Barrier Peaks. P.S. I don't have my dungeon at hand so feel free to correct the informations. |

#6GreysonDec 14, 2005 9:44:30 | My next Adventure Path wish is for Dungeon and Dragon to use twelve issues of the magazines to explore Rauxes. Perhaps now, after ten years, the time has come for tendrils of the evil that brought the Great Kingdom down to start reaching out and penetrating the rest of the Flanaess. Eventually, characters enter the fallen city to face the terrible powers that reign within in its darkest chambers. Along the way they (and the rest of us) learn of what happened to Ivid V, Rauxes, the lords he lured to the city and the Great Kingdom as a whole. If not that, something in Eberron will work, too. Perhaps an Adventure Path exploring Cyre, the Day of Mourning and the Dreaming Stone or Orb of Xoriat. Happy gaming. |

#8zombiegleemaxDec 14, 2005 11:09:47 | I would love to see an Adventure Path based along the Dramij coast and delve south into Western Oerik's interior. This would give us new information on an untapped area (and maps as well!) as well as not having to worry about timeline and other conflicts with existing Greyhawk history. An added benefit would be making it easily adaptable to FR and Eberron seeing as it would be a completely foreign realm from the Flanaess. Anyway I think its time to move on from flogging the old country and infuse some freshness into Greyhawk, and if there is any area that is underdevolped it has to be the Baklunish west. Just my two commons. |
#9YeomanDec 14, 2005 19:59:38 | Thinking about it, the only problem with our adventure path ideas is that they are not that transposable to other settings. This is certainly going to be a draw back at Paizo which has to cater for a general audience. I felt that a strength of the AOW adventure path was that it allowed Eric to indulge us 'hawkers whilst still being able to come across as campaign-neutral, or easily adaptable to other worlds. Using so many different locations has also given us a reasonable tour of the Flanness, but allowed the magazine to not come across as too Greyhawk specific (yes I know we got the toned down version ) I think this is a recipe for success. My next Adventure Path wish is for Dungeon and Dragon to use twelve issues of the magazines to explore Rauxes. I think the Great Kingdom has real potential (including the war ravaged border lands) and that would fit most settings. Its also an area which has had little adventure development in the past. I would love to see an Adventure Path based along the Dramij coast and delve south into Western Oerik's interior. Another area ripe for writing up. Exotic but fitting nearly any campaign. Some themes based on Azor'alq and Tovag Baragu would be great, but hey there's so much out there to use in the West... Thanks for all the comments. Anyway off to research how to cast Suggestion on an e-mail to Paizo :D |
#10AmarilDec 14, 2005 21:07:41 | Following along with the idea of exploring areas around the Great Kingdom, exploring Old Almor could be replaced with the Mournland in Khorvaire. I am not very knowledgeable in Forgotten Realms lore, but I am sure there is something similar. |
#11zombiegleemaxDec 18, 2005 14:56:59 | I currently have my players underneath the Abbor-Alz and needing to fight their way through Orcs to get out. ...oh yeah...there's going to be a dragon also. lol... As far as adventures go?...maybe an invasion by Iuz? That would fun. Instead of conquering a foe, or a cult, or a small group, how about defending against an entire nation? |
#12ajsDec 20, 2005 15:30:11 | Let me refine my statement from before. There's clearly a theme building. We've seen the Ebon Triad and a few other central groups (Co8, of course). We're clearly building to something, though it need not play out in the NEXT arc. In terms of location, I think it's wide open. The east would be great. The west would be cool. The north is a little over-done, but I'm all for it. I love the Lortmils a LOT. The only thing I would not want to see would be the south (just over-done) or a globe-trotting path. But it will be somewhere fairly contained, since it needs to be portable to Eberron or FR without too much trouble. In terms of the McGuffin? I'd expect there to be something relating to the three evil gods. Racially, we've done some staples of D&D (I won't mention any names for fear of spoilage) in AoW, and I'm sure in Shackled City too (though I haven't read it). Vampires of Waterdeep is a mini-arc that may have sated Dungeon's need for a vampire fix, short-term. So it'll likely be something not in those (or at least not just what was in those), and it will be mostly centered on new or core races (since either one will port well to other settings). What does that leave? Githyanki? Elementals? Drow? Something brand new? Then there's the question of what GH history it will tie in to. I'd love to see more about Veluna/Vebobonc's recent difficulties and how they relate to the Wars. I think we can assume Iuz will be left out of it though (he's too central to LG to touch, and he's also hard to port to other settings). There's always the possibility of covering the Flanaess residents who have been around since before the Suel and Baklunish came to the Flanaess from the west. What secrets do they keep hidden from the others even to this day? That kind of "ancient secret" idea can easily move between systems, and yet fills a void in Greyhawk lore (or does it? Have I missed some sources?) |
#13gv_dammerungDec 20, 2005 16:18:02 | I would very much like to see a Sea of Dust feature I would love to see an Adventure Path . . . and delve . . . into Western Oerik's interior. This would give us new information on an untapped area (and maps as well!) as well as not having to worry about timeline and other conflicts with existing Greyhawk history. I agree with both sentiments, particularly Lassiviren's reasoning. |
#14pauln6Dec 21, 2005 3:28:55 | I'd like to see a Baklunish adventure. There are interesting themes and groups up there - the Zashassar, the Sign of the Red Talisman (involving Tuerny and by association Iuz & Iggwilv), the good ol' Cup & Talisman, the Pinnacles, and the general politics and geography of the region are diverse enough that trips to the various countries would be very interesting (maybe even a trip to one of the semi-independent Bakhoury city-states). |
#15zombiegleemaxDec 28, 2005 2:40:41 | I love the suggestion about using the Great Kingdom. I think that Paizo could easily come up with a setting neutral campaign that progresses through low to mid levels all within the Great Kingdom. There are a variety of places to go, Ahlissa, North Province, Almor, the Adri Forest, Medegia, the Iron League states to name a few. These could easily be incorporated into a campaign that was both passably generic and also rich in Greyhawk lore. As for the suggestion about Rauxes, that's not bad, but I think one adventure dedicated to the city would be plenty. For an Eberron tie-in it could be a ruined city within Cyre, for a FR tie-in I'm not so sure, but Toril is so vast I'm certain there is something that could be adapted. Now for later adventures, I can definitely see some action in western Oerik. The sky is the limit there. Since it's largely unexplored and undefined territory in canon, there would be nothing stopping Erik & Co. from introducing whatever the hell they want which means there is little need to worry about Greyhawk proper nouns "interupting" things. I'd eventually like to see an appearance from Mordenkainen though. Old coot hasn't been heard from since Return of the Eight AFAIK. |
