#1johnbilesDec 19, 2005 23:33:10 | Mystara Populations (This is based on some stuff from my research, CoM, and the Glantri Gaz system for population and money. I increased the pop. levels of the more fertile areas under that system.) In the capital hex and each 8 mile hex around it (or just the capital hex at 24 mile hex scale)--100 people / square mile if fertile. Farmland: 60/square mile Hills: 15/square mile Swamp, Jungle, Mountains: 1/square mile Add 50% along rivers and roads Halve if forested. Farmland and Mountains generate 7 GP/month per family of 5 Hills: 4 GP/month per family of 5 Forest: 3 GP/month per family of 5 Cities: 9 GP/month per family of 5 (This is Resource income and a small tax) Each family in a dominion produces 10 GP standard income / month Outside dominions, no standard income is produced and resource income is halved. The Five Shires, For Example: 2 Farmland without Roads and Rivers around Shireton (100/Square Mile) = 11,200 2 Farmland with Roads and Rivers around Shireton (150/Square Mile) = 16,800 1 Forested Plain without Roads or Rivers around Shireton (50/Square Mile) = 2,800 Shireton Hex (Farmland with Road and rivers) = 8,400 + Pop. Of Shireton (30,000?) 19 Farmland without Roads or Rivers (60/sq. Mile) = 63,840 78 Farmland with Roads or Rivers (90/sq. Mile) = 393,120 19 Hill Hexes without Roads or Rivers (15/sq. Mile) = 15,960 16 Hill Hexes with Roads or Rivers (22.5/sq. Mile) = 20,160 14 Forested Hill Hexes without Roads or Rivers (7.5/sq. Mile) = 5,880 8 Forested Hill Hexes with Roads or Rivers (11.25/sq. Mile) = 5,040 41 Forested Plains without Roads or Rivers (30/sq. Mile) = 68,880 16 Forested Plains with Roads or Rivers (45/sq. Mile) = 40,320 26 Mountain without Roads or Rivers (1/sq. Mile) = 1,456 7 Mountain with Roads or Rivers (1.5/sq. Mile) = 588 That makes 654, 544 farmers, not counting city folk. At an 80/20 ratio, they could support about 131,000 city and town folk. Kingdom of Sind: 24 Mile Hexes, so 500 square miles / hex. The Sindhi are competent but not awesome farmers, so we'll use the standard population densities above. (Since the scale is bigger, the 100/square mile around the capital applies only to the hex that the capital sits in) Champions of Mystara gives these population ratios per Caste: Rural: 10% Himaya Caste 5% Rishiya Caste 5% Jadugaryas Caste 50% Prajayas Caste 30% Kuliyas Caste Urban: 20% Himaya Caste 15% Rishiya Caste 15% Jadugaryas Caste 25% Prajayas Caste 25% Kuliyas Caste Azadgal (East Jhengal): 1 Farmland without Roads or Rivers (60/sq. This would give Sind 36,700 men under arms. The bulk of the Himayas can be mobilized in times of need (say, 80%, the rest being too old or young), which would give 318,520. I may muster the will to fiddle with tax revenues later. I may also eventually muster the will to do the rest of the Known world. |
