#1alakarDec 21, 2005 11:22:07 | Just some musing on how to incorperate other races into dragonlance. I know some purist are against this, but this is for others who enjoy porting in new elements. Any constructive comments and ideas are welcome. Warforged- During the War of the Lance, the gnomes of Mt. Nevermind saw a need to find a way to combat the draconians of the dark armies. Automated soldiers, no golems wouldn't do, these had to be able to make choices and work as a team. After many failed experiments (and rather violent explosions) the gnomes perfected the shell of there warrior. They still needed to imbue the shells with sentience. The wizards from the tower were quite busy and did not aid the gnomes. One fateful day, a group of mercenaries stopped at Mt. Nevermind. They learned of what the gnomes were trying to do, and the companies wizard offered aid. He told them to redesign the shell to encompass a small gem, and he would bring them back gems to power there machines. This group of mercs joined up with the Dark Knights, and wizard used his trap the soul spell to trap souls in tiny gems. Many Solmanic Knights, Elves, Dwarves, Kender, and other Races found there way into the tiny gems. The wizard brought the gems back to the gnomes, of course not telling them what was within them, and placed them in the vessels. A strong enchantment kept the memories of the fallen from making there way into the the machanical soldiers. After making a very large profit, the wizard retired from mercenary work. These machines were used in the War of the Lance as well as the Chaos war. During the war of souls, when the river of souls was diverted from its path, the souls within the Warforged began to stir, and began to remember what they once were. There bodies having had rotted away years ago, were no longer available. Many of the warforged tried to become part of socities, some even forming there own communities. Only time will tell what part this race, not created by any God, will play in the future. Relations Kender- Kender are curious about these things, but often find them boring. Thier milatiristic mindset and melancholy (sp?) moods often make the kender find more interesting people to talk to. Warforged often enjoy the pressence of kender, showing the innocence of a child, a reminder of a life lived so long ago. Dwarves- Dwarves are weary of anyting created bye magic. They generally try to avoid the warforged, but in recent years, they have started to respect the no-nonsense attitude that these creatures posses. Warforged respect the dwarves who they fill have similar mindsets. Elves (all)- All elves consider life a gift from the gods. These creatures were made bye gnomes. Elves tend to still regard the warforged as mindless machines of war. This often annoys the warforged. Humans- Humans differ on thier opinions. The nomads and the wild people regard the metal humanoids with suspicion. The more civilized ones see the potential of the kind of work these machines can do, and still other hunt the warforged to disect them and see how they were made, to possibly replicate the process. Warforged very in opinions depending on the type of human. Ogres- Ogres have not had much contact with the warfored, but they do not squish like humans and elves, that in itself makes the ogres hostile. Warfored dislike ogres because of the messy, disorderly style of life and warfare. Minataur- To this date, there is no relationship, good or bad from warforged to minataur. Draconians- The warforged were made to hunt them, so naturally there is a distrust. Though, since draconians are no longer slaves, the warfored have been forging an uneasy truce with the other outcasts of the world. Gnomes- The creators. Many of the warforgd still trek to Mt. Nevermind for maintence and upgrades. Those who have continued the tradition of warriors often seek gnome artificers to make them better at what they are supposed to do. Of course after a few mishaps, they began evaluating other options. The gnomes of course adore the warforged, wich they created. The production of warforged stopped when the wizard retired, but many are trying to replicate the process, some may have succeded. Both the Wizards of High Sorcery, as well as most Temples to the gods, ban the creation of any more warfored. Any forge that potentialy exsists, or does exsists, is kept in secret. |
