I have the complete series of books along with alot of Forgotton Realms books, Book of Vile Darkness/Exalted Deeds. How do you adjudicate what you allow into the game? Heres my guidelines.

1. If a spell is named after a character from another setting and isn't in the PHB you can't have it. This means no Eliminster Effulgent Epuration in my DS games. Most Frostburn spells are a no no as well.

2. A spell can't violate the theme of DS. Basically no spells that are to efficent at creating water or have a "metal effect" that is permanent. 2nd ed had some good guidelines for this. No Wall of Iron for example.

3. PrCs can't contradict the DS theme. Elemental PrCs for Clerics are easy to add for example. Verdent Lord and Green Star Adept don't really fit the DS theme. Most arcane PrC are also a no. Incantrix, Mage of the Arcane Order, Loremaster, Archmage, no no no.

4. Feats. Most warrior/rogue type feats are fine. Several metamagic and item creation feats don't really fit in DS. PCs can suggest a feat and maybe modify it slightly to fit. By a slight modification for example I mean a feat like the Militia feat from Players Guide to Faerun. Its a regional one that grants proficency in all martial weapons. Change the regional requirement to Urik and you're good to go.

5. New classes. Partially covered in another thread only the Scout is allowed into my DS games from the complete series.

6. Some of the more broken spells and feats are outright banned regardless. I had a list but its basically most shapechange magic, and feats like Greenbound Summoner from Lost Empires of Faerun.

Basically commen sense and player suggestions influence my decisions. In any game of mine several things are just outright banned trhough perhaps for as something simple as I don't like them.

I am currently working on the Verdant lord PrC to make it a Gulg Warden PrC. In short, they're druids in the employ of Lalali-Puy who act as game wardens and the Mopti wall "gardeners".

I generally agree with your statements, but I think I'm a little less harsh. I'll let rain a water clerics cast spells that create a lot of water, as long as it isn't ridiculous. If it has another effect that is the real point of the spell, then I just say that it all evaporates afterwards. Same thing with ice magic. And spells like Iron Wall. What does it matter if you create an iron wall, as long as it has a limited duration and all the iron disappears afterwards?

I say: Gulg Warden PrC..... not for druids but for templars!

I say: Gulg Warden PrC..... not for druids but for templars!

Why would you say that- what is your reasoning and/or support for your argument?

Well it was more a comic idea than an arugument, but i don't like mutch the idea of druids aiding Lalali-Puy, she is a defiler, a champion of Rajatt, a DRAGON... They have all reasons to hate her.

Still there is a treehugger flavour in Gulg culture and there seems to be some common ground between gulgites and druid, my idea was to make some templars MIMIC druid's abilities using a Prc (I have to admit it was a reasoning on the run and i vaguely remember the Prc but can't point out the book)

The reasoning that I use to justify Druids aiding SKs is as follows.

They do so only very grudgingly, they are often slaves and captive to the SK. They would rather do what they can to help keep the planet alive even if it means they have to help a defiler. Would you rather provide the SK with a source of energy that will halt their destruction of the planet, or have them go out and gather energy the old fashioned way and speed along the destruction of the planet?

I'm sure they hate having to help them in any way, but its actually a greater service to the planet than not helping them in this way.

Actually, it is stated in IT that druids are in the "employ" of the Oba.

I think that the druid that are in Gulg willingly work for the Oba- they hav been deceived along with everone else into believing her BS. Some of the SotL may know, but may see it is the lesser evil.
