#1zombiegleemaxDec 25, 2005 18:03:26 | Genocidal focus (Su): requies a cuple of specifications: 1 it must explicitly include natural weapons (that dragon and shapechanged campions are likely to use) 2 it needs an "exit clause" of sort, covering what happens when a race is no more and the Genocidal Focus supernatural ability becomes unusable, i proposed a cuple of solutions but I wanna know yours opinions I know that could be futile since no more Campions are likely to be created and the ones still around seems to have no intrest in completing their tasks, but after reading the new and improved Champion template I was eager to know how the level adjstment and challange rating would react to the completion of the task. Wen a race is cleansed i belive will be unfair to charge the ecl and the cr of the cost of the "dread" ability associated to it. Somere i have read of the champions that completed their tasck are at peace with themselves, wat if it will translate in a HUGE will save bonus, useful to manage the rage associated with dragon metamorphosis? Will it be fair a +10 morale bonus? It comes to mind Darksinor's madness, but what if it is only the distorted symptom of this morale bonus (madness domain anyone?) |
#2ruhl-than_sageDec 25, 2005 20:24:35 | Interesting question . It would seem reasonable that part of the Champion Template ECL would be droped. This could be accomplished by buying it off (essentially for free), you would change the ECL adjustment on the template and reduce the characters XP points to match their new ECL. Then future advancement wouldn't be penalized for a useless ability. |

#4zombiegleemaxDec 26, 2005 2:40:45 | It could be that its replaced by another or new ability entirely. Yup, I've posted 2 intresting feats about it in my tread about Ur if anyone minds to rewiew them: REFORGED CHAMPION FOCUS and CHAMPION AT PEACE MY FEATS: |
#5SysaneDec 26, 2005 10:45:06 | Your feats are pretty cool. Not the direction I'd go, but cool all the same. Instead of a feat it could be that the ability of genocidal focus would be replaced with a permanent +2 bonus to damage die to all arcane spells and powers. The type of damage die would be based on the base damage die of the spell or power, Example, magic missile uses d4. So that spell cast by one of the champions who have completed the cleansing of their chosen race would deal an extra +2d4. I'm also think an increase to the save DC to vs. their spells and powers would be in order as well. Maybe something like +2 bonus. |
#6zombiegleemaxDec 29, 2005 16:23:52 | I never played the setting, but I did read the 1st and 2nd novels. I remember one of the characters stumbling on a tomb of these champions of race. What was the reason behind them killing off a certain race and what would they get? |

What was the reason behind them killing off a certain race and what would they get? My only suggestion would be to pick up a copy of the first 5 books, read them, and then get the box setting (either one) and read that over too :D . Your question covers so much material- like the reasoning behind the CL and such, that we would basically have to go over the entre history of Athas. Oh ya, you could also read over the Official Timeline of Athas to also get a short handle on your question. Not trying to be rude ;) and I hope the link help to answer your question. If you would like to know more about Athas and Dark Sun then go to Athas.org the official website for the setting. |

What was the reason behind them killing off a certain race and what would they get? Thousands of years ago, the inventor of sorcery chose several people to become those champions you read about, to be endowed with power and immortality, and tasked with eradicating a number of races he deemed abominations. He chose only humans to be his champions and told them that through their cleansing they would pave the way for him to return the world to an earlier paradise-like time, and that after this change was accomplished only humans would remain and the champions would rule them unto eternity. Its more complex than that, filled with lies, deceptions, and the self-delusions of many powerful individuals, but this is the gist of it. |
#9zombiegleemaxDec 31, 2005 6:37:00 | still, since balance issues are dear to the hearts to the good folks of Athas.org (since it was a major issue of the deal with WotC in gaining the devenlopment of dark sun stuff), my question remains: Are you going to change the template in a manner that the champion who managed to whype out their race aren't going to pay ECL for the now useless abilities or will they, in the success, find a reward costing a comparable ecl? |
