What Happened to Birthright.net?

Hello,

I've been a member of the Birthright.net forum/community board for a few months, now. They've given me excellent information to fill in the gaps that the producers couldn't. However, recently in the past week, whenever I try to go to Birthright.net, it hasn't been able to resolve correctly. At first, it was just saying that it couldn't find the Web page. Now, it does resolve to a Web page, but it is not Birthright.net. It appears to be some German-language page with the title Jan Nordhagen AS. Can anyone tell me what's going on?

Thanks,

The same with me too, though I am sure the site is Scandinavian... I'll be contacting some of the people of the community to see what's going on!

Noticed the same thing.

I don't have access to Arjan's e-mail at home and won't be back in the office for another week so I can't e-mail him directly to find out if he knows anything.

There might be a matter with rights to a page, but I doubt it...

I so hope things will be all right!

Maybe Sindre is out there?

IIRC something similar happened before and it had to do with server maintenance and someone slipping in while it was OOC for a bit.

This often happens to me. If I can't access the BR.net page, I go the hard slog and read the online archives of the mailing list instead: http://oracle.wizards.com/archives/birthright-l.html. That way I try to minimise what I miss out on if the problem is only to do with webpages.

Hi,

The web-site in question is a Norwegian one - it auctions away old stuff (or antiques if you want to be nice). I contacted their web-master, and he suggested it was some sort of DNS-update issue. They most certainly had NOT changed their domain to BIRTHRIGHT.NET!

I'll try to get in touch with Arjan (web-master of BIRTHRIGHT.NET) and ask if he is aware of the problem.

Thanks that helps.

Still wonder what happened and what the status of any "fix" is though.

Arjan?
Sindre?

Whoa....

I'm glad I spoke up and said something. I thought maybe it was only a localized problem with the node in my area.....guess not. :D As far as the site being mixed up with Birthright.net, it being a Scandinavian or Norwegian-language site, I was only guessing that it was German. ;) I can't speak any of those three languages, so it was my best guess... :P ....lol

I am a pretty big Birthright fan, and I'm in the process of building a campaign to run for my friends. I also only play a blend of 1st and 2nd Edition (sorry, not a fan of 3rd or 3.5). So, naturally, Birthright.net has been a big help of filling in the gaps where the sourcebooks don't. I have a lot of the Birthright books, and have read them all, but there are those minor details that pile up and cause logistic and judicial problems.

Hopefully, the guys in charge of Birthright.net are ok and will get this problem resolved soon. Moreover, I'm a patient person, so I would like to see them do it with accuracy so it doesn't come back, rather than with just a quick hack.

Thanks to everyone who spoke up with me, and thanks to irdeggman. I recognize that username from Birthright.net, as he has given me some good feedback for my Birthright questions.

BR.net seems to be back now. No explanation of what happened yet though.

OK with me as well (it took half a day for me to have the page load, it just didn't want to)!

I have gotten word from Arjan.

The Br.net server moved (again) w/o informing Arjan about it. So it would seem that it was indeed an DNS update issue (just plain weird that it took so long though).

To my surprise BRnet got hacked again by some scriptkiddie living in Brasil

Adivinha Seuburro with host c911e203.bhz.virtua.com.br and email adress
soauker@gmail.com

this isnt the first time BRnet got hacked, but this last event made the server owner decide that BRnet has to look out for a new home.

i have found a new home, but i have to talk about in what shape BRnet can come back.

will keep you guys up to date.

sorry for the inconvenience

I really hate it when some person thinks it's cool to do foolishness like that...

We are all with you; I hope the site goes back up. ;)

With BR.net down for the moment, perhaps we should try and list what active BR-related sites are on the net?

Here is mine:

I love the layout of your site there, it is very neat and quite cool man. Keep up the awesome work man. Would say more but unfortunately I am on a very slow dial-up here and am trying to download your regent rules from there right now.
Peace.
