#1megatherionJan 15, 2006 14:16:47 | Greetings fellow members, I'm a quasi-new member and have been stalking this forum for quite a number of months, but never before felt the need to ask for help. I'm tracking a rumour, that somewhere in '95, give or take a few months there was an issue of the Dragon Magazine that contained a fold-in, and inserted foldable map that showed the entire half of the planet Athas. It took me some time to get a grip on the pdf versions of the said magazines, yet I was unable to locate the inserts, apparently not included. I wonder if any of you would have some knowledge about where exactly to look for the missing map, and if so I'd be more than willing to buy the issue, scan the map and post it. Once again, the map is bigger than the one included in 2nd revision, and covers the entire half of the planet, the other half also presumably being totally destroyed and of no interest. However I am aware this is a rumour and i only dare to hope once to have the map hanging on the wall. One other thing. In search of that damnable piece of paper I came across the poster map of Ur-Draxa, from the Valley of Dust and Fire. One thing caught my eye - on that very map, beyond Ur-Draxa, beyond the rest of the Silt Sea, there is land! I couldn't believe me eyes! :D Was that continent, only the smallest part of it being visible, ever described in any of the books? I'd be eternally thankfull for any advice or info you can give me! |

Check out his Cosmological thread that's frequently bumped to the top of the thread list here and see if that's what you are thinking of. |

#4megatherionJan 15, 2006 16:11:11 | Hmm. I saw the Brian's map, but although it's superb, it's not the one I'm looking for, unfortunately. As story goes, told from one DM to another, passed down from knee to knee, in Those days (and I assume it was around '95s) two dragon magazines (or more) had these enormeous A1 or B1 maps, ala conspectus, describing Dark Sun, Planescape and more worlds (if there were more than 2). I can be reasonably sure this is not a fantasy since it was an old DM (with 15ish years of DMing experience) that said he owned one, but unfortunately it got lost during the years. Anyway it's my focus to find this map and have been trying for a long time now. Any further info anyone can reveal on the subject would be greatly appreciated. |

That would mean that if the map does exist, I was given the wrong time period or it wasn't the Dragon but the Dungeon Magazine. That doesn't help, damn. |
#6zombiegleemaxJan 15, 2006 16:57:23 | I do recall a map in Dungeon's Dark Sun DM article, but not that it was A1. In my honest opinion, you're better of with the maps of Dark Sun Rising: http://darksunrising.info/ I hope this helps you out. |
#7KamelionJan 15, 2006 17:34:03 | Sorry, megatherion, but I have to echo the other posters in this thread - it sounds like you are chasing a rumour. There was a Dark Sun conspectus released with Dragon magazine in that era, but the map it contained only showed the areas mapped out in the two boxed sets (and on a considerably smaller scale). Also, in recent interviews, the DS designers of that period have said that there were no further areas mapped out beyond those presented in the boxed sets. Sorry not be of more help. Oh, and welcome to the boards . |

First of all, know that you are not tracking a rumor, but a fact. But you'll be a little dissapointed by what you'll find, as Kamelion pointed out. The map you're searching for is the Dark Sun Conspectus. Since mine is kept in my original DS boxed set, I can't tell you exactly with which Dragon magazine it came from. My guess would be near the number 220, which is when the revised bosed set came out, at the beginning of '95. FYI, the map contained in the conspectus is the same as the one in the revised boxed set. The map of the 'original' Tyr Region is surimposed on the 'expanded' Tyr Region. It also has a collage on it from diverses pictures from the various supplements. On the other side of the poster is an introduction text by the new box' designer and the products that were to be released that year, plus the PP. Hope that help you megatherion. |
#9megatherionJan 15, 2006 17:48:51 | Damnation! I indeed have a pdf of the conspectus and after reviewing the map on it I discarded it as obviously not the thing I seeked. I didn't know that it was the poster from the magazine, since on no site on the net is a detailed explanation of the contents of each of the zines. No matter. It seems I'll have a little chat with my source and in the meantime simply print out Brian's excellent works and paste them alltogether into a A0 map. That's gonna take a big chunk of the wall I might say. ;) |

You can buy a hardcopy of the Dark Sun Conspectus from Noble Knight Games for only $4.00. They had a couple still in stock when I last checked. |

No need, since I do have the posters from the Expanded Campaign Setting pasted one ontop of other, making a A1 map, that currently resides on the wall. It was not the conspectus I was after but the map of the world I believed to be on it. |
