#1ZardnaarJan 16, 2006 2:10:12 | How do Silt Skimmers work? I've seen the pictures in Dragon Kings and now they're contructed in Cromlin via the Veiled Alliance or Slave Tribes PDF (I think don't quote me). They seem to be a big wagon on wheels with a sail. I can't really see them working as I doubt the wind could propel them through the Silt and even if it could you would have no visability. I've also recently finished the Prism Pentad and the Cerulean Storm book had Balican silt schooners which seemd to be powered by psionic orbs. My PCs have just reached Balic from Tyr and I was consideriung a trip to the outer limits of the Cerulean Storm or a short trip across the Estuary of the Forked tongue as one of the PCs is a templar from Gulg and has been ordered to return there. I was thinking of treating such an orb as a spelljammer varient that doesn't fly into space as the idea is similar- Psion/Mage powering a ship. Finally has anyone here got any recoommendations on a naval battles rulebook that could be adapted for a DS adventure? I have the Seafarers handbook which could be adapted to a silt enviroment with minimal effort. |

I remember reading somewhere that the wagon wheels usually contain undead or possibly slaves (half-giants for weight...?), who in a hamster like fashion just keep walking to power the vessel forward. The wheels are wide enough to compact the underlying silt so that the ship doesn't sink, but they can't travel into deep silt areas. Essentially they hug shore lines and are used by small time traders who can't afford a shipfloating orb. It's been a long time since I worked out rules for orbs. Using the old psionic rules, the psionicist had to keep in psionic contact with the orb, which would drain PSPs at a constant rate and then Constitution if they ran out of points. Using current rules, an orb could be imbued with powers such as Telekinetic Force or some sort of amplified Skate power and a variation of Power Leech, possibly draining 1d6 PPs per hour. The PC should have the Use Psionic Device skill, probably with a DC 15 or higher to use its powers. |

heremethvezemJan 16, 2006 7:22:13 | That would be by me :D. See the following link to the master shipfloater PrC, at the end you will find the stats for the obsidian engine that powers psionically-driven silt skimmer. Master Shipfloater PrC You also have the greater obsidian engine and the stats for the skimmers here, see post 14. Feel free to give any feedback you have |
#5GrummoreJan 16, 2006 8:03:37 | It's been a long moment I have been looking for some real stuff for siltskimmer. I have been using Meth stuff for the big ship (powered with obsidian orb), but been improvising stuff for the smaller ones. If anybody want to build a small supplement about the siltskimmer, I will be giving some help to do it as I often go around the silt sea and the ship. |

#7zombiegleemaxJan 16, 2006 12:05:42 | perhaps i'm just a nerd/cyber punk geek...but i think it's be pretty schweet to see something like Land boats which also can be used in the city sea. Perhaps they have board enough hulls so that they are able to keep "afloat". Idea is something akin to what is presented in sandstorm...and some modifications thanks to stormwrack...just an idea though...you could just put some wheels on everything XD |
