#1the_peacebringerJan 20, 2006 13:34:14 | Okay, here's my second try at this PrC. The problem with the first one was that I was trying to base it on the Bloodhound PrC. The thing is, the nobles of Gulg are trackers and hunters in the Crescent Forest and their preys are either from Nibenay or they're animals/beasts. I took a bit of Jon's Master Scout PrC and ideas from the last thread on this subject. I know the skill requirements are pretty low but I would like all warrior classes to be able to acquire this PrC at lower levels(not all of them are rangers or scouts to begin with). They specialize in stealth and making the kill, so this is what I came up. Hunter Noble “May the spirits guide me through the hunt.” - Donolj, Gulg noble before the Red Moon Hunt Hunter nobles embrace the Hunter Cult of the Oba of Gulg and its traditions completely. Over the years, these elite warriors have strived to achieve the perfect state of the predator’s soul with a single-minded dedication, and have become the pillars of Gulg’s military tacticians for any battle within the Crecent Forest, as their knowlede of the terrian is unparalleled. To become a noble hunter, any freeman or freewoman of Gulg who takes part in the Red Moon Hunt who may become a candidate, though most spend years to train themselves before trying. If, the morning after the Red Moon Hunt, a candidate distinguishes himself, and is able to prove their skill by presenting the heads of their kills, they may attract the attention of the Oba. If the queen is pleased with their skill, the aspiring hunter will be ennobled at the next Low Sun Festival, and they can then begin their true training as Gulg’s elites in the Hunter Dagada. Many try, but few succeed. Humans, being the most popular race of Gulg, tend to be the majority of noble hunters, but half-elven or dwarven nobles are not unheard of. The nomadic elves usually steer clear of the nobles’ cult for they usually can’t abide by its beliefs and honor code. A few half-giants and even thri-kreen have made there way into the nobles’ ranks in the past, but they are uncommon. As for halflings, the tensions between them and the Gulgs have made it impossible to see the little savages as nobles, although what the future holds, no one knows. The Hunter Nobles of Gulg are primarily found in the Crescent Forest, hunting prey, be they animal or Nibenese lumberjacks. They are providers of the city but can also serve as scouts or leaders for Gulg’s army. Sometimes, a particularly skilled noble will be sent by the Sorcerer-Queen herself as a bounty hunter to bring back a wanted felon… that is, someone who has upset the Oba and who will pay dearly for the mistake. Hit Die: d8 Requirements:To qualify to become a hunter cult initiate, a character must fulfill all the following criteria. Region: Gulg BAB: +5 Skills: Hide 4, Knowledge (nature) 4, Move silently 4, Survival 4. Feats: Alertness, Track. Special: Must have been accepted as a hunter noble at a Low Sun festival. Class Skills: The hunter cult initiate’s class skills (and key ability for each skill) are Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Hide (Dex), Intimidate (Cha), Jump (Str), Knowledge (geography), Knowledge (nature), Knowledge (nobility and royalty), Knowledge (warcraft), Listen (Wis), Move silently (Dex), Spot (Wis), Survival (Wis). Skill Points at Each Level: 4 + Int modifier. |

#3kalthandrixJan 20, 2006 21:27:13 | I like it- a mix of ranger and assassin Maybe instead of calling the abilities Favored Prey and Terrain, you would want to go with something more unique and condese the material ino one ability paragraph (since you only have it listed as Favored Prey in the progression chart)- like call it Aspect of the Hunt and state that they can either choose a favored creature to hunt or a favored terrian. If you would like, send me the word document and i can set up the format, spacing, and stuff and send it back to you so you can repost it- kalthandrix@gmail.com - all you will have to do is copy and paste it into the reply box and it will come out looking like most of the other PrCs on the board- format wise at least. |
#4the_peacebringerJan 24, 2006 7:10:27 | Thanks for the encouragement guys! I realize something's amiss about the Death attack ... working on it. As for the Favoured prey and terrain, you're right Kal... working on it too. I really appreciate your feedback, guys! The only feedback I got. I'm so misunderstood, just like Jack Laton. [Sorry, just a little Canadian political humour, here] :D |
#5methvezemJan 24, 2006 8:30:23 | Talking about being left all alone, I have finally finished a 'preliminary' draft of the artefact that helped destroy El'Corhial. It's currently being revised, so you should see it soon. :D |
#6PennarinJan 24, 2006 9:57:58 | I'm the one doing the artifact review! (Although it wouldn't surpise me if Meth had other reviewers on the side ;) ) So soon you will have an artifact to play with. As for not posting about your PrC, rangers and Gulg are some of the least interesting things for me in DS. Like you probably...hmm...noticed, I kinda like defilers and undead. Opportunities, power, influence, etc, are what I like, and as such cities like post-PP Raam and Celik I like the most. Thankfully, you got reviewers to help you out with your material! |
#7nytcrawlrJan 24, 2006 10:44:25 | I know I haven't posted much about your work PB, but I am loving it all. I'm glad someone has enough love to flesh out Gulg more than it has been and hope some of your work sees officialdom. Great job on the PrC too! |

#9the_peacebringerJan 25, 2006 10:34:30 | You guys, I'm truly touched. Thanks for the kind words. I've changed the PrC a bit so the Death attack won't be a problem anymore. I figured the Sneak attack ability is not to far off from what the hunters of Gulg are; sneaky little forest buggers. I looked at the scout's Skirmish class feature but it doesn't seem right to have to move 10 feet to perform a Death attack. I would have to delete the Mother's arms AC bonus. Thing is, it would fit better with the Scout class. What do you think? I have also put together the the Favored prey and terrain features as Aspect of the Hunt as Kal offered. I like it better like that. |
#10nytcrawlrJan 25, 2006 11:12:00 | I think the way you have it now is good. |
#11kalthandrixJan 25, 2006 11:58:56 | Hey PB- I got the word doc and will look over all of the PrCs you sent- I can see some serious coolness coming out from these classes. I will also get the PrCs you have formatted so they will come out 100% right for posting here on the board and then I will sned you the word docs with those items so you can post it. - Aspect of the Hunt- love it and such a catchy name too :D |

#13zombiegleemaxJan 25, 2006 21:00:17 | Looks nice! The Guerilla Tactician skill sounds scary! Imagine a whole unit of these hunter nobles ambushing a large group in the jungle! BTW: I think that move silently group check is great, however, I think that the difficulty level should be determined by the person with the least skill in the party. After all, if one person is spotted, the whole group would probably be spotted. Perhaps as a part of the class bonus, moving under the coordination of Hunter Noble provides a bonus to the group DC. itf |
#14the_peacebringerJan 27, 2006 11:50:04 | Looks nice! The Guerilla Tactician skill sounds scary! Imagine a whole unit of these hunter nobles ambushing a large group in the jungle! I'll buy that. How about: Guerrilla Tactician (Ex): When leading a pack of Judaga or a group loyal to him, wearing armor no heavier than light, equal to his hunter noble level, she may coerce her team to be as stealthy as she is. This translates in a morale bonus equal to half the hunter noble's level to the Hide and Move Silently checks for the individual with the lowest result of the group. Rules check: You can't normally aid another on a Move silently check, can you? |
#15the_peacebringerFeb 13, 2006 10:31:25 | Thanks Kal but I can't get the Papyrus font to work. |
#16kalthandrixFeb 13, 2006 11:42:18 | Thanks Kal but I can't get the Papyrus font to work. It looks like it is working- I only had it up in the name area of the PrC. Hey PB- if you want I will go through it again to do some edits- per the e-mail I sent you I only made edits to the beginning paragraph or two- but reading through it again I can se some areas that could use some additional fixes- like in some of the descriptions you switch between masculine and feminian genders- it should be one and then consistant throught the whole documant- let me know! :D |
#17the_peacebringerFeb 13, 2006 15:31:26 | It looks like it is working- I only had it up in the name area of the PrC. Go for it, man! Thanks a mil for editing, Kal! 'Tis a real help and it's much appreciated, eh! |
