#1zombiegleemaxJan 20, 2006 15:23:59 | Does anyone have any sources or information on the role of Duergar in Wildspace? I have a Player whose character is an outcast Duergar. The party is soon to discover Spelljamming, and I'd like to ensure I know where the Duergar stand when not dirt-side. Thank ye Draco |

Basically, duergar are almost completely absent from SJ refrences. Like drow, the big downside to dark dwarves in space is their weaknesses to sunlight. However, there is absolutely no reason you can't use them. There are a few ideas from Dungeon involving drow in space which can easily be used for duergar. For example, drow use special boxes to keep their gear enchanted, don't carry their light-vulnerable stuff on deck, and wear helmets that block out sunlight. All can be adapted for dark dwarves. And if you keep dark dwarves in the outer system, where sunlight is no stronger than a bright star, then they're not hampered at all. For ships, I'd give them citadels & iron ships like scorpions. |

Role of Dark Dwarves in Space: Since there was so little about duergar in SJ materials, they really are a blank slate for you. They'd make excellent outer planet raiders and pirates, miners when they must but better overseers for huge slave armies of miners. Good races for them to work with are drow, neogi, and evil humans and demi-humans. Powerful duergar kings in command of huge citadels might wage war against their standard dwarven cousins over the rich asteroids of the outer systems. |
