#1zombiegleemaxJan 20, 2006 18:15:03 | I'm thinking the general plotline of I6 needs to be edited in order to work in a current Ravenloft game. I'm not talking about the castle itself, just how the PCs get sucked in and what's going on at the village. The original has the Burgomeister's adopted daughter being attacked by Strahd twice, and the PCs are summoned by Styrahd for 1 of 4 reasons. I do NOT want to change the reasons, I just want to make them work better. With that in mind, I'll first outline the Problems: Ireena Kolyana was the girl from a few hundred years ago (as is the rest of the NPCs). Tara Kolyana is the current girl, and she's in Hazlan (we need to draw her in). Strahd knows better than to thnk he can just waltz out (2 of the motives need editing). As stated with Ireena, all the village NPCs need to be updated. Also, do we want to have Sherrif Von Zorovich around (or does he clash with the flavor too much). The Motives are easy. 3 or 5 Strahd seeks a new identity Strahd will try to be alone with a charmed PC, and cast a modified version of Magic Jar, attempting to switch consiousness or souls with the PC target, but nothing else. This is research based on what he learned from the Alchemist Strahd (see I10) a few hundred years ago and what research he has been idly playing with since then. When he switches identities with the PC (and basically places his soul in a MORTAL body), he will attempt to leave Barovia. (while this will likely fail, he figures it's worth a shot. If applicable, he will target an outworlder, just in case). 7 or 10 Strahd wants to open a portal This card tells of a tool of evil. Mists surround and protect this tool, allowing the darkest depths of evil to escape into the world. (If this doesn't sound enough like a demon summoning, let me know) Strahd is trying to open a Portal, and needs a black diamond (or maybe some other gem or item) in order to focus the necessary energies. He falsely believes that the PCs have the gem/item he needs... So there is that. Also, need to change the general plot to get Tara in, and the PCs to help out. I figure that Strahd has Dominated the Burgomaster, Vanda Atanasius. He had her write a letter calling adventurers to help with something (not sure what yet). Somehow most of the Party was crushed, and only two people survived, the Rogue (no details yet) and the Cleric (Tara Kolyana). To make sure they can't leave (and that they can't send warnings), Sherif Von Zorovich has outlawed the sale of the elixir that allows escape without Strahd's permission (accurate as of Champions of Darkness). He then had the Burgomistress write a second letter, which is addressed to the PCs, bringing them in. Either that or Tara sent out a missive to warn people away from Barovia, but it was intercepted, and a new one was forged, much like the original letters. Since one of my PCs is an anchorite, this option works well for me (but may not be the best overall). There are holes in this, and we should fill them. |
#2zombiegleemaxFeb 07, 2006 8:39:40 | Hail to thee of might and valor: I, a lowly servant of the township of Barovia send honor unto thee. We plead for thy so desperately needed assistance within our community. A noble and valiant servant of Our Lady of the Mists, an Anchorite by name of Sister Tara Kolyana, has been afflicted by an evil so deadly that even the good people of our town cannot protect her. She languishes from her wounds and I would have her saved from this menace. There is much wealth in this community. I offer all that might be had to thee and thy fellows if thou shalt but answer my desperate plea. Come quickly for her time is at hand! Already her mind gives way as her body fails. All that we have shall be thine! Vanda Atanasius, Burgomaster |
#3zombiegleemaxFeb 07, 2006 8:40:43 | Hail to thee whom serve Our Lady of the Mists: I, an Anchorite of Ezra, send you honor – with despair. My comrades and I, in order to save a young woman whom has been kidnapped, have been overtaken by a creature of the Night. I Myself have these past three nights been bitten by a creature calling its race “Vampyr.” If my instincts are correct, then for over 600 years he has drained this land of the life-blood of its people. Now, my one remaining companion in arms languishes and dies from an unholy wound caused by this vile beast, and I fear that I shall soon follow. Yet I fear, too, that the creature has some more cunning plan in mind. He has become too powerful to be fought any longer. So I say to you, in Ezra’s name, to give us up for dead and encircle this land with symbols of Ezra and any and every other symbol of good you can gather. Let Holy men, of all creeds, call upon their gods and power that the evil one may be contained within the walls of weeping Barovia. Leave our sorrows to our graves, and save the world from this evil fate of ours. I can only hope the messenger whom bares this missive has been able to use the Vistani potion and safely cross the mists to bare this message. The potion was hard to obtain, and the dark Sheriff will surely know if the creation of another is attempted. Do not come here, for once past the fog there is no return. May the Lady of the Mist Guide You True, Sister Tara Kolyana, Anchorite of Ezra |
