#1zombiegleemaxJan 26, 2006 13:38:29 | I have read a lot about them, ran the one that I could find, but had to work it into the rest of the campaign. I would actually like to run the Grand Conjunction adventures in their full glory, but I don't know which ones are needed. Could anyone please post the titles of all the adventures? |

#4curtisinJan 27, 2006 2:22:40 | I ran one of these some time ago (the one with Ankhtepot - The Touch of Death), and it's going to take a LOT of conversion work... If someone's already done these (and House of Strahd), could you please post your work? I'd be mighty grateful. |
#5i_strahdFeb 05, 2006 3:49:02 | i know this is useless but i did the conversion but i moved and lost the work. alot of what i did was off the cuff. but the biggest problem i found in running the campaign was trying not to show the rail-roading. i know i sound like a broken record but i ran the campaign twice in 2nd addition and once in 3.5. and found out the same in every adventure. they have little choice. and they were not happy. look at my avatar. i like ravenloft as much as anyone, but it was a novel that players could interact (lightly) in. if you want to contact me then send me a private message. |

I love the concept, but I hated the adventures themselves, primarily because they were retconned into weak continuity. I have finally collected all six adventures and I'm currently trying to rework them into something that makes more sense. It's fine for them to be ostensibly unconnected, but I think they should have some less obvious ties to each other, which the PCs could discover if they dig hard enough. I'm trying to write in a Kargat or Kargatane influence in all of the adventures, so the PCs can believe later on that Darkon's darklord was truly manipulating everything to come about. In all adventures, the agent would be either a friend or a foe to the PCs, depending on what it was trying to collect. The item would always concern a magical item that had something to do with the Mists of Ravenloft, which Azalin obviously wants to study. Possible items include Hazlik's Pendant (featured in "The Glass Man" story from Tales of Ravenloft, which makes you ethereal), the Scroll of Return, blueprints for the Rift Spanner, and so forth. One big problem with the adventures is their difficulty level. They're supposed to happen in a certain order, but the challenge level fluctuates. The last two are the most difficult, but the previous four go up and down in difficulty, with Touch of Death being the easiest. I suppose a quick fix is simply to group them according to difficulty level, and play them out of order. Another player suggested inserting "House of Strahd" into the series, between adventure four and five. That way, the PCs could get a sense of Strahd's existence and personal domain, before playing From the Shadows, which functions like a "House of Azalin" type adventure. This would also make sense for Azalin to send the PCs into Castle Ravenloft and attempt to steal the Icon and Holy Symbol. Perhaps the adventure would progress as normal, with Irena Kolyana as the main driver, but with the important difference that she wants to retrieve these items. It could easily be the case that a Kargat or Kargatane member caused her family to believe that these items could bring back her dead father. The ending of the adventure may have to be changed. Perhaps as Strahd studies and tests the party's limits, he gradually comes to understand that they have been sent by Azalin to steal the two items. He would naturally want to send them back against Azalin to infiltrate Castle Avernus and try to kill him. At the end of HoS, Strahd could strike a bargain with the PCs, giving them weapons and other powerful items to use against Azalin. From the Shadows could then start off with the PCs infiltrating a masqued ball at Castle Avernus, instead of the railroading of the Headless Horseman. (This idea is not my own - somebody else posted it on a forum and I thought it was a great idea.) |
