I believe it's in the 2e boxed sets. Water wasn't overly expensive, if memory served. I believe it's mainly that surface water is missing, but there's plenty of it underground or some such.

I never did find it in the 2e revised boxed set, so I made up a price of my own. I've since bought the original boxed set but haven't read thru it, so it may be in there I'm not sure.

It says it is worth its weight in metal (revised camp. setting)

Per SRD 1 pound of Iron is 5sp

That is 50cp in Dark Sun

1 Pound of Water is 8.34 Gallons (about 6cp per gallon)

8.34 US gallons = 31.5703344 liters (about 1cp 5bits per liter)

Done!

Water was 1 sp for a tun (250 gallons), 2 cp for a barrel (30 gallons) and 2 bits for a wineskin (1 gallon). It's on page 59 in Age of Heroes.

What do you know... I am blind after all!

Actually, now that I'm looking at the book, my copy says 1sp for a tun of water (250 gallons) and 2sp for a small barrel (30 gallons). So it costs more for 30 gallons that for 250

I take that as a simple typo, I think what Jon said is pretty good.

It's important to note that these are typical prices for water with a city-state or major client village with a good, but not amazing supply of water. In gulg water would most likely be much cheaper or even free, while at an outpost in the middle of the salt flats the typical price for a gallon of water might be as high as 1sp.

Suppy and demand. ;)

In my DS campaigns I derive a cruel sadistic pleasure from forcing my players to trade extremely valuable items just for enough water to survive the last half of a trek through a desert when a pack of sligs ambush their reserves.

Always a good way to get rid of Joe Fighter's +2 sword in a hurry. He didn't really earn it anyways; he just got lucky.

Aslo if yuo look in the city state of Tyr book it says that there is an amount of water a citizen can get per day for free i believe it is one vessel (pot, vase, whatever) per person per day. it also describes the water that would be brought up from the well. it would have dirt enough to alte the taste of the water i beleive. its been a couple months since i read the book. i think there was a size limitation on the vessel you could fill. and they said that the well's were guarded 24/7 and any one tampering with the well would be killed imediatly and stealing water from the well was a harshly punished offense.
