#1zombiegleemaxFeb 06, 2006 8:19:39 | Just bought it yesterday, and nearly everything in it, I've found is perfect for use in Dark Sun. In fact, I'm planning to add it to the new campaign I'm designing. Anyone else get similar ideas flipping through it? I plan to even use the exact same constellations (kind of a link to Athas' past, and a reminder to players that Dark Sun is still, at it's core, DnD). Let's get some feedback here! |
#2KamelionFeb 06, 2006 8:29:32 | Yeah, it's a great issue. I also intend to use the zodiac system for my Dark Sun games but will adjust it so that it matches the DS zodiac that was presented in the Ivory Triangle boxed set. I also like the sun and moon feats, domains and substitution levels. I can see the moon stuff being easily adaptable to the moon priests of Draj, as well as to more cult-like moon worshippers elsewhere in the Tablelands. |

#4zombiegleemaxFeb 07, 2006 2:25:24 | Ah yes! Found it here! Fiddle the Beetle, Balimarash the Caravan, Krawler the Kank, Scratch the Basilisk, Tyrospur the Lion, The Dragon, Pyrus the Wheel, Tasker the Scorpion, Sylk the Wurm, Hortle the Spider, Saurus the Lizard, and Hesper the Kenku! The Merchant's Calendar card! I totally forgot about it. So which constellations in the Dragon issue are you substituting? Obviously the Basilisk and the Dragon will stay as is. |
#5KamelionFeb 07, 2006 4:39:01 | Ah yes! Found it here! Actually, I don't think that the Dragon as presented in the article really matches my concept of the DS version of the creature. Likewise, I'd make a couple of alterations to the other signs as well. This is how I am using the article for my games (these choices were made purely on the basis of the mechanical advantages given and have nothing to do with the flavour of the equivalent creatures): Fiddle the Beetle - Dryad Balimarash the Caravan - Harpy (replace Perform with Appraise) Krawler the Kank - Wyvern Scratch the Basilisk - Basilisk Tyrospur the Lion - Chimera The Dragon - Stirge Pyrus the Wheel - Hydra Tasker the Scorpion - Unicorn Sylk the Wurm - Kraken (replace Swim with Escape Artist) Hortle the Spider - Beholder Saurus the Lizard - Dragon (replace Appraise with Search) Hesper the Kenku - Ettin |
#6zombiegleemaxFeb 08, 2006 19:24:32 | Any thoughts on how to make it so different astrological events affect psionics instead of magic, like lunar conjunctions, eclipses, etc.? For the campaign I'm working on, I have an Elan who's resurrected a chapter of the Order, she's Psion/Astrologer, and her thing is that she uses different astrological events to bolster her psionic ability. |
#7zombiegleemaxMar 31, 2006 8:49:55 | Any thoughts on how to make it so different astrological events affect psionics instead of magic, like lunar conjunctions, eclipses, etc.? Huh? Player: "Fiddle the Beetle is in the cusp of Guthay, which means I'm super-charged! I'm going to cast Bigby's Crushing Tactical Nuke spell on that gith! WAAAH!" DM: "Right. Cusp this; make your saving throw since you were at ground zero." Kidding aside, I'd use it strictly for things like fortune-telling, predictions and such, which astrology has been used for since those goofy Greeks (or was it the Assurians?) started it. At the moment (not quite awake yet) I can't see how to derive powers from the zodiac, although magic being bolstered makes more sense to me than psionics. After I've had my wake-up glass(es) of Dr. Pepper, I'll mull it over. Hey, a pun. mull=Mul. Get it? Never mind. :D |
