#1zombiegleemaxFeb 14, 2006 18:33:29 | one of my other Players and his Pc came up with an ingenius idea. his Kank died and he stripped the Chitin to armor his Crodlu purchased from a caravan. His idea was to dry out the Kank tissue and burn it to ward of insects at night. it left a sickly smell from its green smoke and did the trick. very impressive game play. any ideas? suggestions?................... |

As for the kank chitin being used to armor an inix, it would take Craft (armorsmithing) ranks to create, and probably Profession (butcher) or Survival ranks to pull off cuting up a kank to obtain armor-worthy material. Also, the DC to create the armor would be higher than for creating armor for a medium humanoid because the armor (barding actually) would be considered exotic (its for an inix). Not to forget that to protect that inix (a large creature) you'd probably need material from a large kank as well, meaning a soldier kank. If not then you need material from several worker kanks (medium creatures), although I do not recall the specifics about the rules concerning crafting armor from animal hide. |

The kanks smell so bad from the inside that rarely anything prays on them in the desert and they are inedible to all humanoids and mosty all other life-forms. In effect, the kank shell would have to be bleached in the sun for about 2 years before the stink would wash off. |

You can later tell them that they need certain skills to repeat this on a regular basis. Though even I have my doubts if it is possible to use a freshly slain kank's shell as armor. The stench should prove to be unbearable, even for an inix. But if the players would think about some inventive ways to circumvent that problem, I would let them succed (at least until they reach the next settlement). Perhaps burying the shell in the desert for a night would make it bearable for a short time. |

Wholesome kank shells would effectively cause their wearer to dehydrate real fast and perhaps even bake. |
