In the Rise and Fall of a Dragon King, Hamanu leaves... Does it means that his templars in the Dark Sun 3.5 have no powers?

What about Urik's guardian?

Any answers please send it to liquid_boss@yahoo.com

Well, dunno, i ignore RAFOADK - not far removed from cannon for my liking. But suspending judgement for a moment - he leaves, i'd say he's:

1. Limited in his contact with his templars (ala Andropinis)
2. Gone (thus templars have no powers)

In the case of 2, i'd suggest that as his templars become clerics, defilers, heck, maybe even druids!

What year is it in the RaFoaDK...?

In the free year calendar of Tyr... In what year are the events of RaFoaDK...?

Let me know...

Even out of the people who like the book, I don't think many would use the ending. As a novel it was great, but in terms of the setting, I'm not to enthused about the idea of Hammanu just effectively killing himself.

You could go either way with the templars. Since Hammanu is still alive, for at least a thousand years you could say they still get their spells, but since he wouldn't be actively granting them you could say that they are cut off.

Yes indeed, there is a bit of contention on that novel for sure. I'm of the mind, that the events of the final few chapters could basically be seen as Hamanu living through the events of a powerful divination spell meant to surmise the outcome of the path chosen. I don't see this as being an option he'd want to live with however. So, obviously, a different route will have to be discovered.

My my, so many...interpretations, its weird. The "Spirit of Athas" takes on Hamanu while he's in the lava and takes a thousand years to remove the effects of Rajaat's handiwork on him. That's it, then the spirit dumps Hamanu - cleansed of all influence, so basically he's a man again - unto his former palace floor, were he discovers that the Spirit of Urik has been impersonating Hamanu for a thousand years so as to preserve the fragile balance and prosperity Hamanu established in his city.

As for templar spell granting, its not mentionned in the novel. Do with it as you wish. Note though that Abbey believed that Kalak's templars got their energy from the Sacha and Wyan, but that it was Kalak who controlled its distribution. As such its not a stretch to believe the Spirit of Urik controlled the distribution of Hamanu's templar energies for a thousand years.

LOL, well the sedond paragraph of my post is a "take", while the first paragraph is an attempt to define in concise words what happens in the novel's end, and as such is not a take. ;)

The books themselves mention it. My copy of the Brazen Gambit is on loan but from memory it is 4 years after the end of the PP. RaFoaDK is the following year I think.

No prob. I got the info from the very book we speak of - p.33
in what year of the Tyr Free calendar does the event of the Brazen Gambit takes place?

Brazen Gambit takes place seven years after Rikus makes his attack (which was in FY 2) making it FY 9 - small problem is that it also takes place after the death of the Dragon (which was in FY 10). Minus this little inconsistency, it seems to me that, with the description of Hamanu's recent return from those events (on p2), it's meant to be towards the end of FY 10 or very early FY 11. Seeing as how this was written close to the time of the release of the revised box set, I'd go with the latter.

Let me know...

From p. 3 of said adventure (1st paragraph):
"Dregoth Ascending is set in Free Year 12."
