When this happens, it goes rogue. Slaadi have a hierarchy too. In the abscence of an actual system of order, rule by the strong prevails. But what would happen if one Slaadi actually slowed down for a moment and thought..."Hey, what's will all this chaos?" What would happen if certain slaadi become more *looks around cautiously* organized? |
#2factol_rhys_dupFeb 26, 2006 19:46:22 | At first, the idea seemed odd. "Rogue slaadi? Is there any other kind? In a race of pure chaos, is there any established norm?" But I like the idea that a slaad could fall into organization. We should come up with specifics on how a slaad decides on this, because "so chaos doesn't feel left out" isn't really enough of a reason to introduce an idea like this into your campaign. What would make a slaad fall into line? A whim? Utilitarianism? It seems a lot easier to unbalance a modron than to balance a slaad. Falled celestials, risen fiends, rogue modrons, fixed/regular/rational/harmonious slaadi. |
#3prophet_of_chaosFeb 28, 2006 21:32:36 | As I understand it,when Modrons go rogue they're still creatures of pure law. What makes them "Rogue" is that they are now self-aware. Every modron in a certain rank is virtually identical. Only a rogue modron is truly different from its fellow (insert rank) because they are now self aware. Basically, I'd like to find something similar like that for the slaadi. I don't know what would make a Slaad go "rogue" but then again no one knows why modrons go rogue either. A "rogue" slaad should be chaotic, but focused. Does that make sense? |
#4factol_rhys_dupFeb 28, 2006 23:15:47 | You're totally right. Complete misrepresentation of rogue modrons on my part. They're not comparable to fallen celestials or risen fiends. |
#5MephitJamesMar 01, 2006 9:34:38 | I think curiosity could be a good motivating factor for a rogue slaadi. Slaadi all like to try new things (mostly tasting them) and a slaadi that really takes this on could be focused enough to be "rogue." Basically, when I heard rogue slaadi I immediately thought of Xanxost, followed closely by Primus's Yarrdulence McSlaad on the Planewalker forums. They're still crazy, zany, ect. but their interested enough in a topic or lifestyle to stick with it longer than a few minutes. Not only does this make them more coherent than normal slaadi but it pretty much demands that they leave Limbo since there's not a lot in the soup to be interested in. |
#6prophet_of_chaosMar 04, 2006 13:50:11 | Most cutters just laugh at me when I tell them this, but believe it berk, this is no laughing matter. What am I talking about? The rogue slaadi of course! Yeah, yeah, yeah. Get it all out. Done yet? Good, then listen up, ya might even learn something. Everyone’s heard of rogue modrons right? No one knows how or why, but somehow even creatures of ultimate law can become tainted with the stain of chaos. All we know is that no one can make a modron go rogue, the change has to be made internally. What’s to say about it? Even the gears of Mechanus have a few kinks in ‘em. But it seems that the Slaadi don’t get the last laugh after all. Some slaadi are just innately different. All slaad seek strength, and power, and some would say that what they truly seek is uniqueness, as shown by the slaad lords. But isn’t it odd how they all seem to be going at it the same way? Blue and red slaad fight amongst themselves and others until they become green slaad. Green slaad study magic until they become grey slaad. Etc etc. And it is at this pivotal point that some slaadi have what some would call an epiphany. Why do all slaad look the same? Why do death slaadi lean towards evil and never good? When these questions and others about the nature of chaos become too much bear, the slaad becomes…enlightened. So how do you distinguish an enlightened slaad from the rest of the gibbering masses? Well for one, unlike other slaadi, they do not have any tattoos on their foreheads to distinguish station. The most important difference however, is their attitude. Enlightened slaadi are focused, civilized even. Try and have a conversation with a normal slaad. If you survive, you’ll never try it again. Enlightened slaadi, are a completely different story. Sure, they’re still chaotic. They might insist on talking while running, or upside down, or something equally bizarre, but they’ll still talk to you. Unlike modrons, slaadi don’t try to kill rogues on sight. Well most don’t anyway, death slaadi have an extreme hatred (or is it fear?) of these enlightened slaadi. So what are they so afraid of, you ask? Haven’t you been listening leatherhead? Enlightened slaadi have tumbled to the dark of Limbo (and thus the nature of chaos itself, and they’re dead set on making some changes, starting with the status quo of the slaad lords. |
