#1rjtrotterFeb 26, 2006 13:28:00 | How would all of you modify the Champion of Rajaat template from Athus.org to fit Hamanu or a later champion from the future for my game? Add sun magic, obsidian bones for energy storage, instant wizard and psion levels, dragon immunities, and other? what would you add or throw out to the list I have added? Just some thoughts. Rob. |
#2dirk00001Feb 26, 2006 15:45:33 | Er...I don't even understand the concept of "future Champion of Rajaat" - they were unique beings created by Rajaat for a specific purpose, and just doing that changed the sun. Unless your game's history is far, far different than the standard DS history, if Rajaat was ever put back into a position where he could create new Champions (i.e. released from his prison, be it the pre-PP Hollow or the post-PP Dark Lens/mini-sun) he's powerful enough that he doesn't even need to make Champions again. (Even in the PP he only said that he'd make Tithian a sorcerer-king, so even if Rajaat had won and kept his promise he probably would just made him a 1st level Dragon) As for Hamanu, I think there's another thread (or two) about that (or that at least discusses it) elsewhere on this board, but most the ideas (IIRC) basically centered around the fact that he was made to kill other Champions as well as Trolls (anyone have a link to that thread/any of those threads?) |
#3PennarinFeb 26, 2006 19:04:08 | Dirk00001, rjtrotter is referencing the novel Rise and Fall of a Dragon King, as well as Lynn Abbey's notes on her novel and the letter she sent me (posted somewhere), where she reveals that Hamanu (a replacement Champion to Myron and the last Champion ever created by Rajaat) is meant to cleanse humans and Champions as well, finishing Rajaat's task. His powers are greater than those of other Champions, including: instant levels in the wizard and psion classes (probably tied to his racial HD); obsidian bones that allow him to make use of dragon magic and other such abilities without the need of orbs; the constant advancement along the dragon metamorphosis without the need to cast epic spells; access to all forms of magic, including Black and Sun casting; a more advanced form of dragon defiling that can drain other Champions to death if prolonged long enough; etc... |

Ahah, the nefarious novel I haven't read that keeps popping up. Last I checked Lynn Abbey's notes on Jon's site didn't download correctly (and I've tried several times now to get 'em)...if anyone (you?) has a link that works that'd be appreciated, I've been trying to get them for some time now. |
#6PennarinFeb 27, 2006 22:07:49 | Wow, that novel does get bad press. I wonder how people who've never read it can ever hope to have an unbiased impression of it now a days, what with all the analysis and overthinking from its detractors. If you want the pdf - 285 ko - I can send it through email. Shoot me your adress. |

That's odd, because it works for me and a lot of others. I do get an error if I try to open it with Acrobat 6 without saving it first. What version of Acrobat or Acrobat Reader are you using? |

What version of Acrobat or Acrobat Reader are you using? Woot, that did the trick - I've got Acrobat Pro 6 and sure enough it was only jamming up if I tried opening it in the browser or otherwise direct from the site - I downloaded it and although the header appears to be messed up the file works otherwise. Thanks man, and thanks Penn (for the offer to send it). As for the book, I'd read so many bad opinions about it over the years that it wasn't until a couple weeks back that a couple comments I read here were positive enough that I finally put it on my "to read" list. |

Rajaat getts free in the future (say 1000 years or so) restarts the war with just one champion / dragon that leads to a "Gray age" when he is created the sun is drained of too much energy. The PC in my game goto the future, see what happens and try to stop it from happening back in the present. This champion is Hamanu's replacement, so his powers are the same. In my game I am going to use the advents from the dragon king book... Rob. |

#12dirk00001Mar 01, 2006 10:03:52 | Just for my up and coming game. At the beginning of book 5 of the PP Rajaat is talking to Khidar and says that when he's freed he's going to "start with the half-breeds" - so maybe you could take a completely different approach, modify the Champion template so it's an "all in one" solution - created to destroy every race equally, etc. Rajaat seems to have the ability to grow in power/"learn more" even while trapped, so in 1000 years he might have figured out a way to augment someone to that extent, which probably would drain the sun down to a different color. Maybe just even stack some templates, like start with the Champion of Rajaat template and tack on the Paragon or something equally ludicrous. If Rajaat was just going to make a single champion, odds are he's going to make them as powerful as he possibly can. Also, maybe include something about how certain mind-affecting spells have a greater affect on the Champion, or Rajaat also creates some artifact (or Epic spell) that allows him to control the Champion (to prevent a repeat of the first Cleansing War's end). I received the file in pdf format and the header was like that. Huh, then I dunno. I just switched from Mozilla to Firefox though so I'm still getting used to the few/slight differences between the two, one of which being how it downloads and opens files (at least on my computer it likes to stutter/lock up or otherwise break on file downloads), so that might be part of it. Regardless, I got the PDF, and I broke down and ordered RaFoaDK last night...maybe I'll just skip reading the last chapter. |
