#1zombiegleemaxFeb 26, 2006 23:24:05 | I was just flipping through my new copy of Dark Chateau, a low-level adventure that is part of the Castle Zagyg series. In this adventure, PCs explore the the archmage Zagyg's goblin-infested abandoned house in the hills. MINOR SPOILERS BELOW! In addition to being a great dungeon crawl from one of the very best dungeon designers of all time, it also has some very neat Greyhawk references! Here are three I found. There may be more that I just didn't pick-up on during a first reading. 1. There's a note that the PCs can find from "R" to "Z" wherein R(obilar) thanks Z(agyg) for the free trip to the East. This is clearly a tongue-in-cheek reference to the incident in the original Greyhawk campaign where Robilar fell down a chute in Castle Greyhawk's dungeons, ending up in China. More info on that here: http://ulmo.mux.net/greyhawk/robilar.html 2. One of the paintings in Zagyg's house depicts a man named Hugh. From his appearance and the musical instruments that he's posed with, this seems like an obvious reference to Heward. 3. There's a shrine to "Bakkab", the god of magic. This one is pretty obvious. It's nice to know that even though WotC won't let Rob use Greyhawk proper for these modules, he's still willing to do whatever he can to add "Easter eggs" for long-time fans. |
