#1bengeldornMar 09, 2006 1:39:20 | I was somekind influenced by the movie Tremors II and the Monsternomicon's Screecher when I created this pretty pet. Saves: Fort +4, Ref +6, Wil +0 Abilities: Str 11, Dex 19, Con 15, Int 2, Wis, 11, Cha 6 Skills: Hide +10, Listen +8, Jump +8, Move Silently +10, Survival +1* Feats: Track (B), Ability Focus (shriek) Environment: Any desert Organization: Pack (3–15) Challenging Rate: 3 Treasure: None Alignment: Always neutral Advancement: 3–6 HD (Medium) Level Adjustment: — A small, eyeless, biped creature with big chops, which take almost a third of their body, opens its three jaws and releases a painful screeching. Screamlings are small, blind predators that have a very big mouth with three, bony jaws, one big upper jaw and two smaller lower jaws. The two strong legs with three sharp claws are attached at the middle of their main body, giving the screamling an almost birdlike posture. Its thick hide varies from sandy yellow to dark brown in color. Its rear part has a short, truncated tail, which helps the screamling to balance its body. On its upper jaw, the screamling has two big nostrils, which help to track its prey. The screamling's heels are slightly softer than the rest of its body and have tiny palps that sense every movement on and in the ground. A screamling stands about 3 feet tall and weigh between 50 to 80 pounds. Its chops are about 16 inch long and can span 1 1/2 foot. The screamling's body ranges from head to tail about 4 feet. Screamlings are carnivores and hunt in packs. They comunicate by softly tapping with their claws on the ground. Although being blind, scremalings are a thread to all creatures that move on the ground, but screamlings are almost helpless against attacks from the air. COMBAT Screamling always hunt in packs. Once they tracked their prey, they sneak up to it. If they prey is tiny or smaller then screamling just charge it and attack it with their huge chops. Small and bigger preys get surrounded and one of the screamlings shrieks to stun or kill the prey. If the prey isn't stunned or killed, then another screamling shrieks. Once the prey is stunned, it will be charged and attacked by all screamlings. Some creatures remain still, when they are threatened. Once the prey stands still, a screamling can only detect it with its scent ability. It sneaks up to the last position the screamling's tremorsense located the prey and starts to detect it by scent. If a screamling successfully locates its prey it immediately shrieks to stun or kill the prey and to alarm the other screamlings of the pack. Shriek (Ex): A screamling can release three time per day a loud screech. This 30-ft.-cone sonic attack stuns every creature within the area unless it succeeds a DC 15 Fortitude save. If the victim fails the DC by 5 points, it's unconscious. Victims who fail their save by 15 or more points die. The DC is constitution-based. Creatures immune to sonic attacks are also immune against this ability. Screamlings are immune against this ability. This ability is negated in an area of silence. Blind (Ex): Screamlings don't have any visual organs. They are immune against any spells or effects based on sight (glamer or light effects), but they have to rely on their other sense organs (scent, tremorsense and hearing) and suffer therefore by a -4 penalty against illusions that are based on smell or sound. In addition a screamling is always considered flat-footed against range attacks. Tremorsense (Ex): A screamling can automatically sense the location of anything that move within 240 feet that is in contact with the ground, so long as it is touching the ground itself. Creatures and objects that are immobile or stopped moving can't be located with the screamling's tremorsense, but the screamling knows the point of the last movement (and can still smell the creature). Skills: Screamling have a +8 racial bonus on Listen and Jump checks and a +4 racial bonus on Move Silently checks. * Screamlings have a +4 racial bonus on Survival checks when tracking by scent. Feel free to make comments. I escpecially seek advice for CR, the abilities shriek, blind and tremorsense and I wonder if the creature could possibly be an animal instead of an magical beast. |
