#1kelanenprinceofswordsMar 12, 2006 7:49:08 | Fonkin is not in the original RG -- most folks reading this post already know that he was one of the heroes led by Frush O'Suggill against the giants and drow threatening Sterich. But were I creating a 3.5 Greyhawk RG (which it appears that I am ), it would ideally contain hundreds of NPCs, not just the ones from RG. I must give credit to the guy from Diamondite Productions (Duircthan or something like that?) for the laborious feats of NPC creation he has accomplished. Having done about a dozen so far, I can more keenly appreciate Mr. D's efforts. #2thanaelMar 12, 2006 13:23:11 | You mean Duicarthan(aka Rick Miller)'s Daemonite Productions: 3.5 D&D Greyhawk NPC Archive. His work is great but i find many of the conversions a bit bland especially with the equipment. But still it's a great reference. I very much like the idea of a Greyhawk RG thread (or even a netbook?) Incidently the 1E Rogues Gallery also includes some general NPC stats for a city watch or bandits etc. Would you want to include those too? There's been a very interesting d100 NPCs thread on ENworld similar with general NPCs. Where are the rest of the dozen or so conversion you talk of ? Please post them too! |

I find many of the NPCs to be too epic, but I realize that he intentionally advanced them to illustrate what could be done if you wanted to go epic. (IMHO, epic games start to dissolve the spirit of GH; it kinda kills the mood when the PCs have conquered the lands of Iuz, the Pomarj, and Bone March, and regularly bully demon lords for fun.) I will post the others ASAP -- glad you find them of interest! |
#4thanaelMar 13, 2006 3:29:57 | Well two of the most iconic of Greyhawks NPCs are epic: Mordenkainen and Robilar. And both were PCs originally. And then there are all those weird epic Quasideities... So i guess one could say this is the original spirit of GH. I'm not adverse to epic material myself being an aivd fan of Dicefreaks. But I concur some of Rick conversions are a bit over the top. |

And then there are all those weird epic Quasideities... So i guess one could say this is the original spirit of GH. I'm not adverse to epic entirely, but I prefer to remove PCs from Oerth once they get past the mid-20s; it seems that alot of the quasideities of Oerth have done the same, adventuring in the other planes more frequently than in the Flanaess. It becomes increasingly harder to find a good challenge on Oerth as one becomes more and more "epic", and bored PCs might start meddling with the setting more than I care to see it meddled with! ;) |
#6the_black_oneMar 17, 2006 17:51:37 | Thanks for the praise Kelanen. I like your work here too. Definitely well thought out. You were correct in that when I made the NPC Archive I wanted to see where an NPC could go in say from 576 CY to 595 CY in Living Greyhawk, a lot of my work was based heavily on canon but featured a lot of conjectures as well. The one part that did not suffer this was the NPC Encyclopedias where I kept the NPC's pretty much the way they were in the original sources with "few" changes. Thats alas available on my site and its a good reference, alas I have't had much time to finish them lately. =/ Maybe soon... but keep up the good work and if you'd like I would be glad to offer your works on my page as a permanent archive with proper credit given to you of course. Thanks for checking out my work, Mr. Miller. I have made good use of your NPC stats on several occasions! Please feel free to put any of these on your page as you see fit. I have no page of my own, and would gladly contribute work to yours. I have them in Microsoft Word format, and can e-mail them to you, if you'd like. I'll check out your NPC Encyclopedias again and try to whip up some NPCs that you haven't gotten around to yet. |
